Job Description

Roles and responsibilities


A Barista at Waldorf Astoria Dubai International Financial Centre will be responsible for delivering high quality coffees to our guests while serving them in a friendly, efficient manner and maintaining a clean and safe work environment while ensuring that guests feel welcome, comfortable and well attended to at all times.

  • Take coffee orders from guests and the F&B service team.
  • Prepare and serve coffees consistently with the hotel standard drink recipe.
  • Assist in other beverage orders and preparation as required.
  • Prepare different kind of latte art for coffees with creativity and style.
  • Maintain glasses and other items in attractive and functional manner to support efficient drink preparation and promotional suggestion.
  • Present drinks menu, make specific recommendation and answer question about beverages.
  • Responsible for restocking and replenishment of bar inventory and supplies.
  • Clear and reset tables in the bar as required.
  • Record drinks order accurately.
  • Assist in creating and implementing standard coffee recipes for the outlets.
  • Conduct coffee trainings for the F&B team as required.
  • Maintain a friendly atmosphere and deal efficiently with any problems that may arise
  • Be passionate about customer service with the capability of delivering exceptional hospitality to our guests.
  • Assist the dining area if needed during busy operation.

A Barista at Waldorf Astoria Dubai International Financial Centre is always working on behalf of our Guests and working with other Team Members. To successfully fill this role, you should maintain the following skills and characteristics:

  • Previous experience as Barista.
  • Experience in Latte Art.
  • Exceptional personal presentation and communication skills.
  • Flexibility to respond quickly and positively to a range of work situations.
  • Passion for delivering exceptional levels of guest service.

Desired candidate profile

A Barista is responsible for preparing and serving coffee, tea, and other beverages to customers, while providing excellent customer service. This role requires a combination of technical skills in coffee making, a strong focus on customer satisfaction, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment. Below are the key skills required for the role of a Barista:

Coffee and Beverage Preparation

  • Espresso machine operation: Proficient in using an espresso machine to prepare espresso shots, cappuccinos, lattes, macchiatos, and other coffee-based beverages.
  • Brew methods: Knowledge of various brewing methods, including drip coffee, pour-over, French press, Aeropress, and cold brew.
  • Coffee bean knowledge: Understand different types of coffee beans (Arabica, Robusta) and how grind size, bean type, and brewing method affect flavor.
  • Milk frothing: Skillfully froth milk to create the right texture for lattes, cappuccinos, and other beverages.
  • Alternative milk options: Knowledge of alternative milk options (almond, soy, oat, coconut) and how to use them in coffee drinks.
  • Tea preparation: Ability to brew and serve various types of tea, including herbal, black, green, and iced tea.
  • Consistency: Ensure that each beverage is made to the same high standard, maintaining consistency in flavor and presentation.

Customer Service Skills

  • Greeting customers: Greet customers warmly and professionally, providing a welcoming atmosphere.
  • Order taking: Accurately take customer orders, listen to special requests or preferences, and suggest items from the menu.
  • Upselling: Recommend additional items or upgrades (e.g., flavored syrups, pastries, or larger-sized drinks) to enhance the customer experience and increase sales.
  • Handling complaints: Address customer complaints or concerns with professionalism, seeking to resolve issues and ensure a positive experience.
  • Personalized service: Remember regular customers and their preferences, creating a sense of familiarity and loyalty.
  • Positive attitude: Maintain a friendly and approachable demeanor, even during busy times, to foster a positive environment for both customers and coworkers.
