- Performing surgical procedures such as castrations, colic surgery, or removing tumors
- Prescribing medications for treatment of diseases and conditions
- Diagnosing conditions and identifying the causes of illness
- Monitoring the health of horses during training, competition, and travel to events
- Performing physical examinations on horses to assess their general health
- Educating owners about proper care of their animals
- Conducting research on equine health issues and making recommendations for new treatments or procedures
- Providing medical treatment to horses through diagnostic testing and drug administration
- Treating horses using surgical and non-surgical methods, including prescribing medication or performing surgery
