Roles and responsibilities
- Prepares all mise-en-place for day to day operation
- Prepare ingredients for cooking, including portioning, chopping, and storing food.
- Ensure the highest standards and consistent quality in the daily preparation and keep up to date with the new products, recipes and preparation techniques
- Maintains a healthy and hygienic workplace
- Maintains proper grooming and professional appearance.
- Communicates politely and display courtesy to guests and colleagues
- Communicates to his/her superior if there are any difficulties with guests or internal customer comment and other relevant information
- Establishes and maintains effective employee working relationships
- Attends and participates in daily briefings and other meetings as scheduled
- Attends and participates in training sessions as scheduled
- Prepares in advance food, beverage, material and equipment needed for the service

- Grooming

- Hygiene and Cleanliness
- Performs related duties and special projects as assigned

- Handling Basic Cooking Tasks: Assisting with simple cooking techniques such as boiling, steaming, grilling, or frying under the supervision of more experienced chefs.
- Ingredient Organization: Ensuring ingredients are ready and prepped according to the chef's instructions before cooking, ensuring accuracy and cleanliness.
- Learning Recipes: Following recipes or instructions from senior kitchen staff and learning the correct procedures and techniques for food preparation and cooking.
2. Maintaining Cleanliness and Hygiene
- Kitchen Cleaning: Keeping workstations, utensils, and kitchen equipment clean and sanitized, adhering to hygiene standards and health and safety regulations.
- Dishwashing Assistance: Washing dishes, utensils, and cooking equipment as needed to support kitchen operations.
- Waste Management: Ensuring proper disposal of food waste and recycling materials and keeping the kitchen free from clutter.
3. Stocking and Inventory Management
- Organizing Ingredients: Assisting with organizing ingredients in the kitchen, ensuring that food items are stored correctly and used in a timely manner to avoid spoilage.
- Inventory Assistance: Helping senior staff with inventory checks and ensuring that ingredients are properly rotated according to the first-in, first-out (FIFO) principle.
4. Supporting Senior Kitchen Staff
- Learning from Senior Chefs: Following the guidance of more experienced chefs and kitchen supervisors to develop cooking skills and knowledge.
- Working in Multiple Stations: Rotating through different kitchen sections, such as pastry, cold prep, or hot stations, to gain a well-rounded understanding of kitchen operations.
5. Time Management and Efficiency
- Speed and Precision: Working quickly but efficiently, ensuring that food preparation tasks are completed in a timely manner to keep up with the pace of service.
- Multi-tasking: Managing multiple tasks at once, such as preparing different dishes or cleaning equipment while assisting with cooking.
6. Health and Safety Compliance
- Food Safety: Adhering to food safety regulations, such as proper handling, storage, and cooking temperatures for various ingredients to prevent foodborne illnesses.
- Personal Hygiene: Ensuring that personal hygiene standards are met, including wearing appropriate uniforms and following cleanliness protocols.
