Post-Doctoral Associate in Marine Microbiology - Dr. Shady Amin

The Center for Genomics and Systems Biology (CGSB) at New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) invites applications from individuals to be appointed as a Postdoctoral Associate in the Interdisciplinary Collaboration Program in a project that spans oceanography ecology and mathematics. The position will be based at NYU Abu Dhabi starting September 1 2025 for two years renewable depending on funding under the supervision of Professor Shady Amin in the Marine Microbiomics Lab and Professor Francesco Paparella. We encourage applicants with a strong marine microbiology background especially with experience in chemostats culturing of phytoplankton and/or bacteria. Strong bioinformatics skills and a proven ability to perform data analysis using programming environments such as Python or R is also required. Applicants must have a strong publication record and a capacity to conduct independent high-quality research. Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in marine biology oceanography computational biology or a related field at the time of appointment.

The project focuses on studying the interplay of interactions within the microbial loop between phytoplankton and bacteria examining these relations from a single one-on-one co-culture to complex microbiome interactions. Results from culturing and chemostat settings will be used for modeling the microbial loop. Excellent communication skills in English ability to work in multi- disciplinary teams and scientific creativity are essential.

Researchers at NYUAD have access to state-of-the-art facilities that include NovaSeq MiSeq Illumina and ion torrent sequencing platforms and a high-computing cluster in addition to a state of-the-art mass spectrometry facility (NYUAD Core Instruments).
