Job Description

Roles and responsibilities

  • A Kitchen Technician is a specialized professional responsible for maintaining, repairing, and ensuring the proper functioning of kitchen equipment in restaurants, hotels, or other food service establishments. This role is crucial to the smooth operation of any kitchen, as it involves both preventative and reactive maintenance of kitchen appliances and systems. The Kitchen Technician helps to ensure that all equipment, from ovens to refrigerators, is running efficiently and safely, minimizing downtime and preventing disruptions in kitchen operations.

  • Perform repairs and maintenance duties on a wide variety of kitchen equipment.
  • Carry out periodic inspection, cleaning, and equipment servicing.
  • Inspect facilities and equipment for conformance with operational standards.
  • Review job order to determine work priorities.
  • Schedule repair, maintenance, and installation of machines, tools and equipment to ensure continuous operations and guest and owner satisfaction.
  • Complete preventative maintenance program items in coordination with plan.
  • Follow department policies, procedures and service standards.
  • Carry out installation of new equipment; perform repairs on leaks; change equipment parts that have become old or defective.
  • Collaborate with other maintenance workers, company’s officials, and staff to effectively provide solutions to maintenance problems.
  • Attend quickly to emergency call on equipment repair issues.
  • Report any hazard during work.
  • Report any abuse of equipment or Energy.
  • Perform other duties the supervisor may assign.

Desired candidate profile

  • Equipment Maintenance and Repair

    • Perform regular maintenance on kitchen appliances such as ovens, stoves, refrigerators, dishwashers, microwaves, and ventilation systems.
    • Diagnose and repair mechanical and electrical issues in kitchen equipment.
    • Ensure that all kitchen appliances are cleaned, lubricated, and properly calibrated to maintain peak performance.
  • Preventative Maintenance

    • Schedule and conduct routine inspections to identify potential issues before they cause breakdowns.
    • Replace worn-out or damaged parts, such as seals, filters, or gaskets, to avoid larger mechanical failures.
    • Ensure compliance with safety regulations by checking for potential electrical hazards, gas leaks, and other unsafe conditions.
  • Troubleshooting and Repairs

    • Respond quickly to kitchen equipment breakdowns, diagnosing issues and performing repairs as needed.
    • Work efficiently under pressure to minimize kitchen downtime and keep operations running smoothly.
    • Troubleshoot both electrical and mechanical components to identify and resolve problems.
  • Installation and Setup

    • Install new kitchen equipment, ensuring that all installations comply with manufacturer instructions and local regulations.
    • Set up new kitchen appliances and ensure they are calibrated and operational before use.
    • Provide training or guidance to kitchen staff on the safe and proper use of newly installed equipment.
  • Cleaning and Sanitation

    • Perform deep cleaning on kitchen equipment, such as hoods, fryers, ovens, and grills, to remove grease and other debris that can affect performance.
    • Ensure that equipment is sanitized and safe to use in a food preparation environment.
    • Clean and maintain kitchen exhaust systems to ensure proper ventilation and safety.
  • Inventory and Parts Management

    • Maintain an inventory of necessary spare parts, tools, and equipment for repairs and maintenance.
    • Order parts and supplies as needed to ensure the availability of commonly used items.
    • Keep records of repairs, parts used, and maintenance performed for future reference.
  • Compliance and Safety

    • Ensure that all kitchen equipment is in compliance with local health and safety codes and regulations.
    • Regularly inspect gas lines, electrical connections, and fire suppression systems to ensure safety standards are met.
    • Follow safety protocols while repairing equipment to prevent accidents and injuries.
