Job Summary
A Mechanical Engineer in a fire protection company is responsible for the design installation testing commissioning and maintenance of fire fighting systems. The role ensures compliance with safety standards project specifications and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
1. Design & Engineering
Prepare design drawings and calculations for fire fighting systems (e.g. sprinkler systems fire pumps hydrant systems).
Review project specifications BOQs and tender documents.
Ensure system designs comply with standards such as NFPA local civil defense requirements and international codes.
Perform hydraulic calculations for sprinkler and hose reel systems.
2. Project Execution
Supervise installation of fire protection systems on-site.
Coordinate with civil electrical and MEP teams.
Ensure work is executed as per approved shop drawings.
Monitor project progress and report to project manager.
3. Testing & Commissioning
Conduct testing of fire pumps sprinkler systems and firefighting networks.
Participate in inspections with authorities and consultants.
Ensure systems are fully operational and compliant before handover.
4. Maintenance & Troubleshooting
Diagnose faults in fire fighting systems and recommend corrective actions.
Plan preventive maintenance schedules.
Ensure system reliability and readiness at all times.
5. Documentation & Reporting
Prepare method statements technical submittals and inspection reports.
Maintain records of testing commissioning and maintenance activities.
Assist in preparing as-built drawings.
6. Compliance & Safety
Ensure all work complies with safety regulations and company policies.
Coordinate with authorities for approvals and inspections (e.g. Civil Defense).
Implement quality control procedures.
Required Qualifications
Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering.
2 5 years of experience in fire protection systems (sprinkler hydrant fire pumps).
Knowledge of international codes (NFPA BS FM).
Experience with hydraulic calculation software and AutoCAD.
Key Skills
Strong technical knowledge of fire fighting systems.
Project management and site supervision skills.
Problem-solving and analytical thinking.
Good communication and coordination abilities.
Preferred Certifications
NFPA certifications (e.g. NFPA 13 NFPA 20).
PMP (Project Management Professional) is a plus.
Work Environment
Combination of office (design) and site (installation & supervision).
May involve working under deadlines and in construction environments.
