About the Role
As a Vehicle Technician you are the specialist eyes on our autonomous vehicle sensor stack and mechanical assembly. You will inspect test and validate the hardware components that make our vehicles see and think; Lidar Radar cameras and compute units as well as the physical mounting systems wiring harnesses and mechanical assemblies that hold everything together and ensure every system meets operational and safety standards before deployment.
This is a junior to mid-level hands-on technical role specializing in the inspection testing and quality assurance of AV self-driving system hardware and its mechanical integration. You will work closely with engineering staff and the AV Safety Manager to identify hardware defects validate sensor performance check mechanical integrity document findings accurately and support root cause analysis when issues arise. You are not a software engineer but you understand how hardware behaves how to test it methodically and how to flag when something is wrong.
What Youll be Doing
Hardware Inspection and Validation
Conduct structured inspections of AV self-driving system hardware including Lidar Radar cameras ultrasonic sensors and compute units
Verify correct installation alignment physical condition and connectivity of all sensor hardware following defined inspection checklists and partner SOPs
Perform functional hardware checks and sensor readiness validations as part of the pre-deployment clearance process
Conduct post-repair hardware inspections to confirm defects have been correctly resolved before vehicle redeployment
Assess impact of environmental conditions heat dust humidity on sensor hardware performance and flag anomalies
Mechanical Inspection and Assembly Integrity
Inspect all sensor mounting hardware brackets fasteners clamps and vibration isolators for correct installation torque and physical condition
Verify cable routing strain relief and connector seating across the full sensor wiring harness flagging any chafe pinch or unseated connection
Check enclosure seals gaskets and IP rated fittings to ensure ingress protection against dust and moisture critical in Dubai operating conditions
Perform post-maintenance underbody and chassis-level inspections to confirm no mechanical disturbance from prior service activity
Identify and escalate loose corroded or fatigued mechanical components before they cause sensor misalignment or vehicle downtime
Maintain a structured mechanical inspection log alongside hardware QA records so both disciplines are traceable in the fleet maintenance system
Testing and Characterization
Execute defined hardware performance tests and bench characterization procedures to verify sensor output against acceptance criteria
Support calibration procedures for Lidar Radar and camera systems in accordance with partner technical standards
Operate onboard diagnostic tools and software interfaces to assess hardware health and data quality
Document test results accurately using 4Cs standards (Condition Cause Correction Confirmation) in the fleet maintenance management system.
Defect Management and Escalation
Identify document and escalate hardware defects and sensor anomalies through the defined non-conformance process
Track open hardware issues including mechanical defects through to resolution; verify corrective actions before closing
Identify recurring hardware failure patterns and surface structured findings to engineering staff and the AV Safety Manager
Support post-incident technical reviews where hardware performance is a contributing factor
Compliance and Safety
Adhere strictly to high-voltage safety lockout/tagout and hazardous material handling protocols at all times
Follow mechanical safety protocols when working around high-torque fasteners suspension components and vehicle undercarriage including correct use of vehicle lifts and jack stands
Maintain audit-ready hardware inspection and test records
Ensure all hardware QA activities electronic and mechanical comply with partner technical standards and UAE regulatory requirements
What You will need for this position
Diploma or bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering Electronics Physics Mechanical Engineering or a related technical field preferred
2 to 5 years of experience in hardware testing electronics QA light mechanical maintenance or AV/automotive technical operations
Hands-on experience with optical electrical or sensor hardware preferred; Lidar or Radar familiarity a strong advantage
Practical experience with mechanical assembly fastener systems torque tools and basic vehicle maintenance even from an automotive aerospace or industrial background
Comfortable operating diagnostic tools software interfaces and onboard vehicle systems
Strong attention to detail; methodical and thorough in inspection testing and documentation
Basic data analysis skills; comfortable working with test outputs logs and performance data
Able to lift and carry assemblies exceeding 25 kg and stand for extended periods
Valid UAE driving license preferred
What Does Success Look Like
All AV hardware inspected and validated to standard before every deployment
Defects identified early documented accurately and resolved completely
Recurring hardware issues surfaced to engineering before they become operational problems
A sensor stack that performs reliably because the QA bar never moves
Mechanical assemblies are consistently in spec no deployment is delayed by a loose mount failed seal or unseated connector that should have been caught at inspection
