Winterberry is looking for a Garden Center Assistant Manager to oversee the day to day operations of the garden center in conjunction with the Garden Center Manager. Some of the responsibilities include overseeing department heads, excellent customer service, managing the tree and shrub department and managing inventory levels.


Job Duties:

  • Assist Garden Center Manager on a day-to-day basis.
  • Oversees department heads; meets to discuss weekly plans and controls quality and tempo of work.
  • Acting tree and shrub and perennial department head. Organizes, maintains, scouts and waters plant material. Trains staff on Winterberry policies and procedures.
  • Obtains excellent customer service. Educates and helps pick out plant material that fits guests needs.
  • Works in conjunction with Garden Center Buyer to keep yard properly stocked throughout the year.
  • Assists in unloading of deliveries, product allocation, spacing, pricing and tagging.
  • Conceptualizes and creates beautiful garden center displays.
  • Schedules and organizes garden center plantings with install department.
  • Oversees all aspects of social media.
  • Fully understands the workings of point-of-sale program; creating skus, running reports, receiving orders and troubleshooting when necessary.
  • Yearly recruiting and hiring process.


Requirements:

  • Possesses plant knowledge in all areas of the garden center, pest and disease identification, treatment and control.
  • Basic knowledge of landscape design and construction.
  • A knowledge of propagation, pruning, fertilization and care of all plants.
  • Understanding of pricing and merchandizing of plant material.
  • Managerial skills.
  • Must be able to multi-task in a busy environment, have good listening skills, professional phone skills and a positive attitude.
  • Weekends are required.
  • Loader or skid steer experience is preferred, not required.
  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time and should be able to lift 50lbs.
