- UNR Med residents must meet the qualifications for resident eligibility as outlined in the Essentials of Accredited Residencies in Graduate Medical Education published in the ACGME Directory.
- Resident education involves supervised, progressively more complex and independent patient evaluation and patient management functions and formal educational activities. Accordingly, the competency of each resident is evaluated on a regular basis.
- Residents provide care commensurate with their level of advancement and competence, under the general supervision of appropriately privileged attending teaching staff. It is each resident's responsibility to notify their immediate supervisor and to seek assistance if there are any issues that may jeopardize patient safety, or if the resident feels they are being asked to function beyond their level of competence.
