Job Description

The Role:
We are seeking a motivated and experienced Obs and Gynae Registrars looking for a laid back, affordable lifestyle - Life in Tasmania provides a quality work/life balance.

Multiple fixed-term full time day worker (with on-call) positions working 80 hours per fortnight commencing from February 2024 until February 2025. (Please note opportunity for 48-month appointments may arise from this selection process and will be negotiated on an individual bases)

The maternity unit, housing the birthing suite and all inpatient maternity patients for the region, is located at one Hospital, with antenatal and postnatal services offered at both sites.  There are approximately 1000 births annually and staffing includes experienced midwives. High risk births are managed in conjunction with the other Hospital’s in the State, supported by the local endocrinology and diabetic teams.
The unit is supported by a Level 4 Neonatal Unit and an 8 bed Level 4 Intensive Care Unit. The outreach services are located at picturesque regional centres.

This position will be attractive to highly skilled and motivated medical professionals who view challenges as opportunities and is driven by a passion to improve healthcare in the complex world of modern health systems. The right applicants will play a key role in developing health care at both patient and system levels.

The Service:
You will be working in an innovative and dynamic organisation dedicated to improving the health and wellbeing of the community. You will be working alongside over 1200 full time equivalent staff in multidisciplinary teams across two acute hospitals, three district hospitals and seven community health centres.

The health service serves a population of over 160,000 and faces several challenges with high levels of chronic disease and an ageing population. The health service works in close partnership with general practice and other health and social care providers throughout the region.

The Location:
Located in a beautiful seaport city with a population of 20,000 people, this region is un-spoilt and within easy drive of rugged mountains, spectacular wilderness, and sparkling highland lakes. Unpolluted coastal seas and rich fertile soils enable local produce to be some of the world's finest foods.

Skills & Qualifications required:
Eligible for registration with AHPRA
Fellowship of the Australian College of Emergency Medicine (FACEM) or equivalent

Essential:
  1. Demonstrated understanding of “Good Medical Practice - A Code of Conduct for Doctors in Australia”.
  2. Demonstrated commitment to medicine, including rural and regional medicine in Tasmania.
  3. Knowledge of recent advances in medicine including current drugs and technology.
  4. Demonstrated understanding of Infection Control principles.
  5. Demonstrated effective communication skills with patients, their family/carers, medical colleagues and other health professionals.
