Job Description

Summary

  • Managing all aspects of payroll processing to ensure accuracy and timeliness.
  • Ensuring compliance with all applicable state and federal wage and hour laws.
  • Preparing and maintaining accurate payroll records and employee files.
  • Satisfying union reporting requirements including pension, annuity, health insurance, and union dues reports.
  • Providing support to the finance department in the preparation of financial reports and audits.
  • Collaborating with the HR department to ensure accurate and timely onboarding of new employees.
  • Responding to employee inquiries regarding payroll issues or concerns.
  • Keeping abreast of current payroll tax requirements and relevant laws associated with the processing of employee wage data, including payroll taxes, employee federal and state income and social security taxes, and other required reporting.
  • Participating in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance the efficiency and accuracy of payroll operations.

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field.
  • 1+ year of experience as a Payroll Coordinator or in a similar role.
  • Strong knowledge of payroll systems and procedures, and federal and state laws related to payroll and taxes.
  • Demonstrated experience with an automated time and attendance system, and processing payroll preferred.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and work to tight deadlines.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to liaise effectively with staff at all levels.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, and experience with payroll software.
  • A proactive approach to problem-solving, with the ability to anticipate and resolve issues before they escalate.
