Job Description

- Welcoming guests and escorting them to their tables when seating is available
- Serving food and beverages to guests during meals or receptions, taking orders for special items such as wine or other drinks, and making sure that guests’ needs are met throughout the meal or event
- Determining when new dishes are ready to be served and communicating with waitstaff to ensure that plates are cleared promptly after being served
- Performing administrative tasks such as greeting customers, answering phones, answering questions about menu items or specials, and providing general information about the restaurant
- Ensuring that the restaurant is staffed with enough waiters and waitresses to meet customer demand during busy hours
- Arranging for special events such as weddings or birthday parties by coordinating with the event planner, florist, musicians, and other service providers
- Monitoring the flow of customer traffic in the dining room to ensure that there is adequate space between tables and that no one is waiting to be seated
- Collecting payment from customers at the end of the meal and processing any credit card transactions using computerized point of sale (POS) systems
