Job Description

Roles and responsibilities

  • Follows work schedules and receive Chilled Water Pipes, supports and accessories from the site stores to perform the installation works
  • Carries out required markings at site ensuring the workshop drawings/coordination drawings are strictly followed
  • Carries out installation works of chilled water pipe supports, Pipes and accessories according to the drawings and measurements
  • Contributes to testing & commissioning of chilled water system when required
  • Ensures that the necessary tools and plants are available in order to perform the job
  • Always Follow the HSE requirements of the site to ensure that HSE regulations are met

Requirements

  • Any qualification on Central Air Conditioning Systems is preferred
  • 05-10 years of installation experience of HVAC Chilled Water Pipe Works – Gulf experience preferable
  • Should have good technical skills and application skills
  • Should be capable of working independently
  • Language – English
  • Computer Skills, i.e. Microsoft Office
  • Communication skills
  • Installation of Piping Systems:

    • Reading Blueprints: Interpreting blueprints, schematics, and diagrams to determine the layout of piping systems and ensure compliance with safety codes and specifications.
    • Pipe Assembly: Cutting, threading, and welding pipes to assemble the system. This may include measuring, marking, and cutting pipes to fit specific lengths and angles.
    • Fitting and Joining Pipes: Installing pipes, valves, fittings, and other components into the designated positions. Pipe fitters use different techniques such as threading, welding, brazing, and soldering to connect pipes.
  • Maintenance and Repair:

    • Inspecting Piping Systems: Regularly inspecting installed piping systems for leaks, damage, or wear and tear. Identifying any issues and recommending solutions to prevent system failure.
    • Repairing Damaged Pipes: Cutting out damaged sections of pipes and replacing or repairing them. This could involve welding, replacing seals, or re-threading.
    • Troubleshooting: Diagnosing and fixing issues such as leaks, blockages, or misalignments in existing piping systems.
  • Testing and Calibration:

    • Pressure Testing: Conducting pressure tests on newly installed systems to ensure they can withstand the intended pressures and are leak-free.
    • Flow Testing: Ensuring that pipes are correctly aligned and that the system flows as required, using tools to measure the effectiveness and efficiency of the installation.
  • Safety Compliance:

    • Following Safety Standards: Ensuring that all work is carried out in compliance with safety regulations and industry standards, such as those from OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration).
    • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Wearing proper safety gear, including gloves, helmets, safety glasses, and flame-resistant clothing when working in hazardous environments or handling potentially dangerous materials.
    • Handling Hazardous Materials: Working with hazardous materials like high-pressure systems or toxic chemicals, and ensuring that safety protocols are followed.
  • Collaboration and Communication:

    • Working with Other Trades: Collaborating with other tradespeople, such as welders, electricians, and construction workers, to complete the project.
    • Communicating with Supervisors: Reporting to supervisors or project managers on the progress of work and any challenges faced on the job site.
    • Supervising Apprentices: Experienced pipe fitters may oversee apprentices or less-experienced workers, providing guidance and ensuring that work meets the required standards.

Desired candidate profile

    • System Upgrades: Installing additional pipes or modifying existing systems to accommodate upgrades or changes in the building’s needs, such as adding new water lines or gas lines.
    • Retrofitting: Retrofitting older systems with new, more efficient components or adapting them to meet new standards or regulations.
  1. Documentation:

    • Keeping Records: Maintaining records of installations, repairs, and maintenance work, as well as ensuring that all work is properly documented for future reference or inspection.
    • Compliance Documentation: Keeping track of inspection results and testing records to ensure compliance with local, state, or national regulations.

Skills Required for a Pipe Fitter

  1. Technical Knowledge:

    • Strong understanding of plumbing, mechanical systems, and pipe fitting techniques.
    • Knowledge of various types of pipes and fittings, as well as the appropriate methods for joining them (e.g., welding, threading, brazing).
  2. Blueprint Reading:

    • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, and technical drawings to understand the layout and installation requirements of a piping system.
  3. Mathematical Skills:

    • Proficiency in basic math for measuring and cutting pipes accurately, calculating angles, and determining the necessary pipe lengths and sizes.
  4. Welding and Cutting Skills:

    • Expertise in welding and cutting metal pipes to create secure and leak-proof joints.
  5. Problem-Solving Abilities:

    • Ability to identify issues with piping systems, troubleshoot problems, and find effective solutions to ensure proper system function.
  6. Manual Dexterity:

    • Strong manual skills and precision when working with tools and equipment to cut, fit, and assemble pipes.
  7. Attention to Detail:

    • High attention to detail when measuring and installing pipes to ensure they are properly aligned and meet safety and regulatory standards.
  8. Physical Stamina:

    • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting heavy pipes and working in confined or challenging spaces.
  9. Communication Skills:

    • Clear communication with team members, supervisors, and clients to ensure work is completed efficiently and to specification.
