Job Description

Roles and responsibilities

A General Technician will be responsible for ensuring that guests can enjoy their stay comfortably, safely, and without any technical issues. Their job is to maintain all aspects of the hotel building, including heating, cooling, plumbing, electrical and other systems. They work closely with the hotel management to schedule regular maintenance checks and troubleshoot any problems that may arise.

  • Perform routine inspections of guest rooms, public areas, and equipment to identify needed repairs
  • Repair or replace damaged furniture, fixtures, and appliances in guest rooms and public areas
  • Maintain and repair electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and mechanical systems throughout the hotel
  • Respond promptly to guest requests for maintenance assistance, including after-hours emergencies
  • Maintain cleanliness, safety, and appearance of hotel grounds and exterior features such as swimming pools and parking lots
  • Coordinate with vendors and contractors to ensure timely completion of repairs and maintenance projects
  • Keep detailed records of maintenance activities and supplies used, and prepare reports as needed
  • Follow all safety protocols and procedures, including use of protective equipment and proper disposal of hazardous materials
  • Participate in regular training and professional development to stay up-to-date on standards and equipment advancements.

Desired candidate profile

Technical Expertise

  • Mechanical knowledge: Ability to understand and troubleshoot mechanical systems, machinery, and equipment, ensuring that they are functioning properly.
  • Electrical systems: Familiarity with electrical circuits, wiring, and devices, as well as the ability to diagnose and repair electrical issues safely.
  • HVAC systems: Knowledge of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems, performing regular maintenance, repairs, and adjustments as needed.
  • Plumbing systems: Basic knowledge of plumbing systems, including pipe repair, leak detection, and troubleshooting drainage systems.
  • Pneumatics and hydraulics: Ability to maintain and repair hydraulic and pneumatic systems commonly used in machinery, tools, and industrial equipment.

Troubleshooting and Problem-Solving

  • Diagnostic skills: Strong ability to identify the root cause of equipment failures, whether mechanical, electrical, or software-related, and implement efficient solutions.
  • Creative problem-solving: Approach issues with a solution-focused mindset, using critical thinking and experience to find innovative ways to resolve technical problems.
  • Attention to detail: Ensure that all repairs and maintenance work is done with precision, identifying even the smallest issues that could lead to larger problems.

Preventive Maintenance

  • Scheduled checks: Perform routine inspections and maintenance on equipment to prevent unexpected breakdowns and prolong the life of machinery.
  • Lubrication and cleaning: Carry out regular lubrication and cleaning of equipment, ensuring that all parts are working as they should and reducing the risk of wear and tear.
  • Documentation: Maintain records of all preventive maintenance and repairs, including parts used, issues resolved, and any observations for future reference.

Safety and Compliance

  • Safety protocols: Adhere to all safety standards and regulations to ensure that all repairs and maintenance work is done safely, protecting both yourself and others in the workplace.
  • Personal protective equipment (PPE): Always wear the appropriate safety gear (e.g., gloves, goggles, safety boots) to prevent injury while performing technical work.
  • Knowledge of regulations: Stay informed about industry-specific codes, standards, and environmental regulations to ensure that repairs and installations are compliant with laws.
  • Hazardous materials handling: Understand how to handle, store, and dispose of hazardous materials, chemicals, and waste according to safety regulations.

Equipment Operation

  • Tool proficiency: Use a variety of hand tools, power tools, diagnostic tools, and machinery to complete maintenance and repair tasks effectively.
  • Calibration and adjustment: Ensure equipment and machinery are properly calibrated and adjusted to meet optimal performance standards, improving their efficiency and reliability.
  • Inventory management: Keep track of tools and spare parts inventory, ensuring that necessary items are readily available for repairs and maintenance work.
