Job Description

Roles and responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for Year 11 learners, parents, and teachers regarding pastoral matters, academic progress, and student welfare.
  • Monitor student attendance, behaviour, and performance, identifying areas for improvement and implementing interventions where necessary.
  • Provide academic guidance and support, working closely with form tutors, subject teachers, and the Senior Leadership Team to track progress and address concerns.
  • Lead and organise year group assemblies, events, and activities that promote personal growth, academic excellence, and a strong sense of community.
  • Support learners in their preparations for GCSEs, coordinating revision sessions and study skills workshops.
  • Liaise with external stakeholders, including parents and examination bodies, to ensure that students are on track for success.
  • Collaborate with the History or Science department (depending on your subject specialism) to contribute to high-quality teaching and learning in your area of expertise.

Skills

Requirements:

  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in a pastoral care or student support role within a school setting.
  • Qualified to teach History or Science (with a relevant degree and a recognized teaching qualification such as PGCE or QTS).
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organisational skills.
  • Experience in supporting learners through key transition periods, such as GCSE preparations.
  • Strong understanding of student welfare, behaviour management strategies, and the ability to support learners’ academic and personal development.
  • Passion for creating an inclusive and nurturing school environment.

Desirable:

  • Experience working with Year 11 learners or preparing students for GCSEs.
  • Experience in leading pastoral initiatives and working with a diverse range of learners.

History Specialist

  5. Research Skills: Ability to guide students in conducting historical research, using primary and secondary sources effectively.

  6. Cultural Awareness: Understanding diverse perspectives and ensuring inclusivity in discussions about history.

Science Specialist

  2. Inquiry-Based Learning: Ability to foster curiosity through hands-on experiments and investigations, encouraging students to ask questions and explore.

  3. Effective Communication: Clear communication skills to explain complex scientific concepts and facilitate discussions among students.

  4. Problem-Solving Skills: Encouraging critical thinking and the application of scientific methods to solve real-world problems.

  5. Safety Awareness: Understanding of laboratory safety protocols and practices to ensure a safe learning environment.
