Women expats employed in leadership roles in the UAE agree a country is a place where they can flourish in their social lives and jobs without any barriers because the emirates support equality for women, just ahead of International Womens' Day on March 8.

"Strong gender equity principles have allowed us to recruit, maintain, and inspire the best combination of talent, ensuring that our female team members achieve success and participate completely, both for themselves and us, right here in the UAE. As a woman, I consider myself fortunate to live in the UAE, as it actively promotes women in the workplace. Finding work as a woman is not difficult. It's the same. "It all boils down to your success and merit," said Layal Saad, Procter & Gamble's Senior Director of Human Resources.

Equal Opportunities

"In reality, Procter & Gamble is working to push gender equality to the forefront of the region's goals in 2021 and beyond. "Our latest #WeSeeEqual Summit brought together leading voices on gender equality to challenge existing dialogue and agree to the steps required for progress," she added.

Schneider Electric Gulf Countries CFO Aissata Sada Wane said she has never been overlooked or passed over for a role because she is a woman. "The UAE is a melting pot and a country that values and supports its women." "I imagine there were many difficulties in the days of my older female relatives. Since then, we've made significant strides. We must aim for parity in topics such as opportunity and remuneration in the future. And it is for this reason that we must all continue to work."

Cohesive Society

"I admire the contributions of women around the UAE and beyond," said Emirati Khadija Khalifa, senior director of commercial and sponsorship at Global Village. We believe in diversity and are on a quest to bring exceptional people worldwide to redefine how we understand community at Global Village.

As an Emirati woman, I am incredibly proud and privileged to contribute to the UAE's increasingly inclusive society."

"UAE's great diversity pool of talent has helped us to increase the percentage of women in our UAE offices by more than 40% — a result that gives us the confidence to continue and extend our programs focusing on women," said Jana Gutierrez Kardum, Senior HR Manager for Central Eastern Europe, Middle East, Africa, and Turkey at Red Hat. She said, "Our Women's Leadership Community offers Red Hat women opportunities to improve their public speaking skills, network and share expertise, show their leadership talents, and network with senior leaders within the company. We also have an internal mentoring program and a chapter dedicated to women's mentoring."

Welcome to all women

Maya El Hachem, the Managing Director and Partner at Boston Consulting Group said she wanted to use International Women's Day to honor women in various fields and applaud their contributions and hard work in the UAE. "This year, International Women's Day comes at a difficult time for most women around the world, whether they be scientists working on a vaccine, nurses and physicians on the front lines, or mothers and professionals.

IWD is an excellent opportunity to focus on the problems that women face and the impact of the COVID-19 crisis on the progress made toward gender equality.

New Norms

"Leading by example and setting new criteria in favor of diversity are promises that du finds topmost priority," said Hanan Ahmad, Head of Corporate Affairs and Assurance (Acting) at EITC and Chairwoman of du's Gender Balance Council. As a result, we've been able to accelerate and sustain progressive improvements around the organization by empowering women in leadership positions, nurturing skills, and developing female leaders' next generation, especially in STEM fields. From the Gender Balance Council's viewpoint, we raise awareness, promote discussions, and encourage constructive steps in creating a workplace that respects women.
