Since the company was founded in 1942, Assam has been working to strengthen and promote the food industry in Israel, and among its pages of history is the story of the entire country. The production lines at the barn factories operated in March even before the establishment of the state and also during the difficult austerity period of the early 1950s. During this time, barn establishments provided hundreds of thousands of citizens of the country with the economic crisis of food and employment under fair conditions. During the War of Independence, trucks with barn produce were part of the convoys that led to supplies to Jerusalem, and one was even damaged in an exchange of fire and burned. During the years of its existence, many new immigrants were absorbed into the barn, during all periods and from all the ascents, who found it a warm home. The development of the company and the establishment of the various enterprises were an integral part of the activities of promoting development areas throughout the country, creating stable sources of employment and livelihood.
