- assist doctors while they use special equipment during surgeries while also helping to deliver other health care services.
- Prepare the operation theatre for surgery.
- Arrange the instruments and equipment required for a particular surgery.
- Clean and sterilize them before the procedure.
- Arrange transport of patients.
- Arrange wheelchairs or stretchers to transfer the patients to the operation theatre as necessary.
- Arrange instruments and supplies according to the surgery that is to be performed. Following infection control protocols.
- You will be responsible for maintaining a sterile field for operation.
- Ensure that there is no contamination of surgery instruments or devices. Cleaning up after the surgery.
- Discard disposables and clean and sterilize the equipment. Ensuring proper biomedical waste disposal.
- Follow standardized protocols for infected, non-infected, sharp, and hazardous waste. For instance, using color-coded disposal bags.
- Ensure the availability of medical and diagnostic supplies. You will have to make sure the operation theatre is well-stocked at all times. (e.g. gloves, tubes, catheters).
- Work effectively with other team members. You will be a part of a team that consists of surgeons, anesthetists, nurses, etc. and effective coordination is a must for the smooth flow of the surgery.
