Job Description

Roles and responsibilities

  • Lead multidisciplinary teams to deliver hospital projects on time and within budget.
  • Develop and implement robust project plans, schedules, and budgets.
  • Oversee MEP systems, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, fire protection, and hospital-specific systems.
  • Ensure compliance with healthcare authority regulations and standards.
  • Conduct quality inspections, review drawings, and manage risks proactively.
  • Foster strong client relationships by delivering exceptional results.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • Experience: 10-20 years in MEP project management with at least 2-3 hospital projects successfully delivered.
  • Skills: Leadership, communication, presentation, and project management expertise (e.g., Primavera P6).
  • Knowledge: In-depth understanding of construction contracts, MEP systems, and healthcare authority requirements.
  • Traits: Problem-solver, team motivator, and able to thrive under pressure.
  • . Project Planning and Coordination:

  • Scope Definition: Defining the scope of MEP systems in a project by collaborating with the client, architects, and engineers. This includes outlining the specific mechanical, electrical, and plumbing requirements for the project.
  • Scheduling: Developing and managing detailed project schedules for MEP system installation and coordination with other construction activities.
  • Resource Allocation: Allocating the necessary resources, including labor, equipment, and materials, for MEP work and ensuring their availability on-site.
  • 2. Design and Technical Oversight:

  • Design Review: Reviewing and approving MEP designs and blueprints to ensure compliance with building codes, regulations, and client requirements. This includes working closely with MEP engineers and consultants.
  • Coordination with Other Disciplines: Ensuring proper coordination between MEP systems and other parts of the construction project (e.g., structural and architectural elements) to avoid conflicts and ensure seamless integration.
  • Innovation and Value Engineering: Offering suggestions for system improvements or cost-saving alternatives that do not compromise quality or performance.
  • 3. Procurement and Contract Management:

  • Vendor Selection: Overseeing the procurement of MEP materials, equipment, and subcontractors. This includes evaluating bids and negotiating contracts.
  • Contract Management: Managing contracts with subcontractors and suppliers, ensuring that terms and deadlines are met. This also involves addressing any disputes or changes in scope.
  • Budgeting and Cost Control: Developing and maintaining the MEP project budget, ensuring that costs are controlled, and managing change orders effectively to avoid budget overruns.
  • 4. Construction Oversight and Supervision:

  • Site Management: Overseeing the MEP work on-site, ensuring that installations are being carried out according to the plans and specifications. This includes ensuring safety standards are maintained and that work is completed on time.
  • Quality Control: Implementing quality control processes to verify that all MEP installations meet the required standards and codes. This includes inspections, testing, and commissioning of systems.
  • Issue Resolution: Addressing any technical or operational issues that arise during the MEP installation process, working with engineers and contractors to resolve problems efficiently.
  • 5. Health, Safety, and Compliance:

  • Safety Standards: Ensuring that all MEP work is carried out in compliance with health and safety regulations. This includes conducting regular safety inspections and providing safety training for workers.
  • Code Compliance: Ensuring that all MEP systems comply with local building codes, regulations, and industry standards. This may involve coordinating with local authorities for inspections and approvals.

Desired candidate profile

  • Technical Knowledge:

    • In-depth understanding of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems and their integration into building projects.
    • Familiarity with industry standards, codes, and regulations (e.g., ASHRAE, NFPA, NEC, local building codes).
  • Project Management:

    • Strong project management skills, including scheduling, budgeting, resource allocation, and risk management.
    • Proficiency with project management software (e.g., Microsoft Project, Primavera P6, Procore).
  • Leadership and Team Management:

    • Ability to lead, motivate, and manage multidisciplinary teams, ensuring coordination and efficient workflow.
    • Conflict resolution and decision-making skills to address challenges and disputes among stakeholders.
  • Communication Skills:

    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to interact with clients, contractors, engineers, and other project stakeholders.
    • Ability to present complex technical information in an understandable manner.
  • Problem-Solving:

    • Strong analytical skills to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues that may arise during the design, installation, or commissioning of MEP systems.
  • Negotiation Skills:

    • Negotiating contracts, changes in scope, and disputes with clients, suppliers, and subcontractors.
  • Attention to Detail:

    • Careful attention to detail in reviewing designs, contracts, and construction work to ensure high-quality standards are maintained.
  • Health and Safety Awareness:

    • Knowledge of health, safety, and environmental regulations and the ability to enforce these standards on site.
  • Financial Management:

    • Strong budgeting and cost management skills, including the ability to identify cost-saving opportunities without sacrificing quality.
