Job Description

Roles and responsibilities

1. Customer Service Skills

  • Providing excellent customer service by engaging with guests, taking drink orders, and creating a welcoming atmosphere.
  • Anticipating guest needs, making recommendations, and ensuring customer satisfaction.
  • Handling difficult situations, such as customer complaints, with professionalism and grace.

2. Knowledge of Alcoholic Beverages

  • In-depth knowledge of various types of alcoholic drinks, cocktails, wines, and spirits.
  • Understanding the preparation methods for classic and modern cocktails, as well as the ability to create unique drinks based on guest preferences.
  • Familiarity with beer and wine pairings and the ability to recommend options to complement meals.

3. Mixology and Cocktail Preparation

  • Expertise in mixing, garnishing, and serving drinks according to standard recipes or custom requests.
  • Ability to create new and creative drink specials or unique cocktails that fit the restaurant's theme or clientele.

4. Speed and Efficiency

  • Ability to work quickly in a fast-paced environment while maintaining high standards of service.
  • Managing multiple orders, especially during busy hours, and ensuring that drinks are served accurately and promptly.

5. Attention to Detail

  • Ensuring the accuracy of drink orders and following specific instructions from guests (e.g., low-alcohol, no garnish).
  • Monitoring bar inventory and maintaining an organized stock of liquor, garnishes, and glassware.
  • Checking identification for age verification before serving alcohol.

6. Cash Handling and POS System Knowledge

  • Accurately processing customer payments, whether cash, credit card, or other forms of payment.
  • Proficiently using Point of Sale (POS) systems to ring up orders and track sales.
  • Handling cash, tips, and credit card transactions securely and responsibly.

7. Multitasking

  • Managing several tasks simultaneously, such as taking orders, preparing drinks, and serving guests at the bar or table.
  • Coordinating with servers and other staff to ensure smooth service, especially during busy hours.

8. Cleanliness and Bar Maintenance

  • Maintaining a clean and organized bar area, including wiping down surfaces, restocking supplies, and ensuring the bar area is tidy at all times.
  • Ensuring that glassware, utensils, and bar equipment are sanitized and ready for use.

9. Knowledge of Safety and Legal Regulations

  • Understanding the local laws regarding alcohol service, including age restrictions, and ensuring compliance with these regulations.
  • Monitoring alcohol consumption and recognizing signs of intoxication, knowing when to cut off service to a guest.
  • Implementing responsible alcohol service practices and ensuring guests drink responsibly.

10. Physical Stamina

  • Standing for long periods and working in a physically demanding environment.
  • Carrying heavy trays or kegs and lifting items like bottles, glasses, and drink orders.

11. Teamwork

  • Collaborating with servers, chefs, and other staff to ensure smooth operations and efficient service.
  • Communicating effectively with other team members, especially during high-volume periods.

Desired candidate profile

  • Provide an enjoyable dining experience through excellence for quality, professionalism, and friendliness.
  • Anticipate guest needs and satisfaction; offer suggestions and respond urgently and appropriately to guest concerns and requests.
  • Describe the selection of food & beverage menu items to guests by offering interesting, and vivid descriptions of each item, origin, taste, and preparation methods; and possess excellent working knowledge of all products according to service standards

What You Bring

  • A minimum of 2+ years of experience in the similar role in a luxury brand
  • Proficient in English (speaking, reading and writing)
  • An outgoing personality and a can-do approach to an assigned task
  • High level of understanding and knowledge of food and wine
