Roles and responsibilities
- Possesses Lifeguard certification and authorized to conduct AR and CPR.
- Ensures set-up of safety equipment at the beach/pool which includes set up of life saving floatation devices along the shoreline/around the pool; correct flag must be in placed during business hours; rescue surfboard/boat ready on the shoreline; first aid kit; posting of business hours; depth of the pool; water & air temperatures; wind force & wind speed.
- Keeps the designated and marked swimming areas free of any engine driven boat or alike, windsurfers, or sea bikes (pedalos).
- Ensures that swimmers/snorkels are out of boat tracks or any hazardous areas.
- Supervises the use of windsurf and sea bikes including the log in and log out of guests, monitoring the action of wind surfers and those engaged in other water activities while out on the sea.
- Responds to any emergency within the hotel, resort swimming areas including ensuring that rescue boat is available at all times.
- Ensures that all water sports activities or pool activities are executed according to Security and Safety regulations.
- Performs other duties that may be assigned from time to time.
Qualifications
Lifeguard Qualifications / Skills:
- Knowledge and ability to evaluate water conditions at aquatics facilities, at the beach/ocean, or other offsite natural pools, streams, or rivers to determine any potential dangers or hazards
- Ability to adjust programs as necessary to ensure the safety of the visitors and other staff
- Swimming proficiency and comfort in all types of water conditions
- Ability to judge and evaluate evolving dynamics of individuals participating in aquatic activities to immediately assess their capabilities and threats to their safety
- Knowledge of on-site protocols, operational procedures, and safety policies
- Knowledge of methods and techniques for providing on-site emergency medical services
Education, Experience, and Licensing Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Minimum of 1 year of related work experience
- Certified Red Cross Lifeguard Training Certificate, or equivalent
- Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer, or equivalent
- Red Cross Standard First Aid, or equivalent

1. Strong Swimming Skills
- Proficiency in various swimming strokes and techniques.
- The ability to swim long distances, perform rescues, and manage strenuous physical activity.
2. First Aid and CPR Knowledge
- Certification in First Aid, CPR, and AED (Automated External Defibrillator).
- Ability to provide life-saving care in emergencies, including performing rescue breathing and chest compressions.
3. Vigilance and Attention to Detail
- Continuously monitoring swimmers for signs of distress or dangerous behavior.
- Observing water conditions, ensuring safety rules are followed, and identifying potential hazards.
4. Communication Skills
- Using clear and effective communication to instruct swimmers, alert others, or direct emergency responders.
- Providing guidance to swimmers about safety protocols and behavior.
5. Physical Stamina and Fitness
- The ability to remain alert for extended periods, sometimes in harsh or hot conditions.
- Physical endurance to perform rescues and assist swimmers in distress.
6. Problem-Solving and Decision-Making
- Reacting quickly and appropriately to emergencies or accidents.
- Assessing situations to determine the best course of action, such as whether to call for backup or intervene directly.
7. Teamwork
- Coordinating with other lifeguards, pool or beach staff, and emergency personnel to ensure safety.
- Assisting in managing crowds or providing assistance during group activities.
8. Knowledge of Safety Protocols and Rules
- Understanding and enforcing pool or beach rules to prevent accidents.
- Keeping updated on safety regulations, procedures, and water safety techniques.
9. Customer Service
- Interacting with swimmers, guests, or patrons in a courteous and professional manner.
- Offering assistance to guests while ensuring safety is maintained.
