Job Description

Roles and responsibilities

  • Maintain an effective bar service with an emphasis on high quality, efficient service
  • Check that Guest service standards are set, implemented and monitored, and continuously evaluated
  • Set-up of the outlet in accordance with the pre-determined standards of the operation
  • Comply with licensing regulations and hotel procedures relating to the bar and service of alcoholic beverages and conduct staff training sessions accordingly
  • Demonstrate a perfect knowledge of all beverages served in the bar, how beverages are prepared (to recipe) and presented, and how Bar personnel are trained to possess this knowledge and the application of it
  • Ensure compliance with and the proper training of Team Members so that all Company Health and Safety, and Fire Regulations and procedures are understand and applied
  • Ensure all Team Members are impeccably presented and adhere to the correct uniform standards
  • Deal with sudden staff shortages through absenteeism and report all absences according to Company Attendance Procedures
  • Complete all necessary administration in accordance with Company procedures relating to all staff members
  • Maximise revenue and increase average spend per person through upselling, high customer service standards, effective training and motivational techniques

A Bartender is responsible for mixing and serving drinks, providing excellent customer service, and maintaining a clean and organized bar area. Here are the key skills required for the role:

Customer Service Skills

  • Friendly and approachable demeanor: Greet customers warmly and create a welcoming environment.
  • Active listening: Understand customers' preferences and provide tailored drink recommendations.
  • Problem resolution: Handle customer complaints or issues with professionalism and tact.
  • Patience and empathy: Remain calm and attentive during busy or challenging situations.

Communication Skills

  • Verbal communication: Clearly and confidently communicate with customers, taking drink orders and offering suggestions.
  • Non-verbal communication: Use body language to convey attentiveness and friendliness.
  • Team collaboration: Work with other bartenders, servers, and kitchen staff to ensure smooth service.
  • Clear instructions: Relay important information, such as drink modifications, to the rest of the team.

Mixology and Drink Preparation Skills

  • Knowledge of cocktails and drinks: Be familiar with classic cocktails, trendy drinks, and the proper methods for mixing and serving beverages.
  • Ingredient knowledge: Know the ingredients, garnishes, and techniques used in preparing cocktails, including spirits, liqueurs, syrups, and mixers.
  • Speed and accuracy: Prepare drinks quickly and accurately, ensuring quality service even during busy periods.
  • Creativity: Develop and suggest signature cocktails or personalized drink options for guests.

Organizational and Time Management Skills

  • Efficiency: Handle multiple orders at once, keeping the bar flowing smoothly during peak times.
  • Prioritization: Serve drinks in the correct order while ensuring guest satisfaction.
  • Bar maintenance: Keep the bar area clean, stocked, and organized throughout shifts.
