A Teaching Assistant (TA) supports teachers and students in various educational settings, assisting with classroom management, lesson delivery, and providing academic support. Below are the key skills that a Teaching Assistant should possess:
1. Communication Skills
- Verbal Communication: Explaining concepts clearly and effectively to students, teachers, and parents.
- Written Communication: Assisting with preparing lesson materials, reports, and feedback for students.
2. Patience and Empathy
- Demonstrating understanding and patience when working with students of various learning abilities, backgrounds, and challenges.
- Being compassionate and supportive, creating a positive learning environment.
3. Classroom Management
- Helping maintain order in the classroom by managing student behavior and enforcing school rules.
- Assisting in organizing and setting up classroom activities, ensuring a safe and productive environment.
4. Instructional Support
- Assisting the teacher with lesson preparation and delivery.
- Working with small groups or individual students, explaining concepts, and helping with assignments.
- Providing additional support to students who may need extra help or have special needs.
5. Organization and Time Management
- Managing multiple tasks such as preparing materials, monitoring students, and supporting the teacher.
- Staying on top of lesson plans, grading, and administrative duties.
6. Adaptability
- Being flexible and adaptable to changes in classroom dynamics, curriculum, or schedules.
- Adjusting teaching strategies to meet the needs of different students.
7. Teamwork and Collaboration
- Collaborating with teachers, staff, and other teaching assistants to ensure the smooth operation of the classroom.

- Identifying student struggles and helping to find solutions or alternative teaching methods.
- Handling unexpected challenges in the classroom calmly and effectively.
9. Technology Proficiency
- Familiarity with educational technology, including learning management systems (LMS), online resources, and classroom devices.
- Assisting with the use of multimedia tools for teaching and learning.
10. Instructional Material Preparation
- Helping to prepare classroom materials, such as handouts, worksheets, and visual aids.
- Assisting in creating lesson plans and modifying them for different student needs.
11. Student Motivation and Encouragement
- Encouraging students to stay engaged and participate in activities.
- Providing praise and constructive feedback to help students grow academically and personally.
12. Knowledge of Educational Theories and Practices
- Understanding different teaching methodologies and learning styles, particularly in relation to the subject matter.
- Being familiar with current educational trends, research, and teaching best practices.
13. Assessment and Evaluation
- Helping teachers assess student progress through grading assignments, tests, or observations.
- Providing feedback to students on their performance and helping them understand how to improve.
Desired candidate profile
We are looking to hire Female candidates who have worked in an Early years setting in a Nursery / School supporting the Teacher by providing quality teaching and learning experiences. The candidate must have the ability to work as a member of a team, communicate effectively with young children and be flexible and willing to undertake a range of tasks in an efficient manner. Candidates must have a university degree, or a Cache Level 2 or experience of working in an early childhood setting with a minimum of a high school certificate.
