Skills

Successful candidates will need to:

  • Hold a BEd or Bachelors degree with PGCE / PGDE or equivalent
  • Have proven experience of teaching French & Spanish

Desired candidate profile

Modern Foreign Language (MFL) teachers play a vital role in helping students acquire new languages and understand different cultures. Here are some essential skills and qualities for effective MFL teachers:

  1. Language Proficiency: Fluent in the target language(s) and knowledgeable about grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, and idiomatic expressions.

  2. Cultural Awareness: Understanding and appreciation of the cultures associated with the language(s) taught, fostering a global perspective among students.

  3. Teaching Skills: Ability to design engaging lesson plans that incorporate various teaching methods, such as communicative, task-based, and immersive approaches.

  4. Effective Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills to explain language concepts clearly and encourage student interaction.

  5. Classroom Management: Skills in maintaining a positive and engaging classroom environment that encourages participation and reduces anxiety around language learning.

  6. Differentiated Instruction: Ability to adapt lessons and activities to meet the diverse needs and learning styles of students.

  7. Assessment and Feedback: Proficiency in assessing student progress through various methods, providing constructive feedback to support language development.

  8. Technological Integration: Familiarity with educational technology and resources that enhance language learning, such as language apps, online platforms, and multimedia materials.

  9. Collaboration: Working with colleagues to integrate language learning across the curriculum and support interdisciplinary projects.

  10. Passion for Language Learning: A genuine enthusiasm for languages and teaching that inspires students to engage deeply with the subject and develop a love for learning.
