About Company: Our client is a fast-growing grocery retail chain startup with strong financial resources that is going to change the retail market in Nigeria.
The Company is currently seeking to hire a Category Manager to work alongside the Chief Purchasing Officer, this role will be responsible for delivering best in class category leadership for the Company s retail consumer goods.
Using a combination of category, customer, shopper and consumer insight, the Category Manager being the expert of the category performance will use his/her expertise to deliver objective recommendations to the customer segment, and to the Chief Purchasing Officer by shaping the Company s strategy and approach with consumer goods.
Key deliverables of the role are to lead category initiatives with the customer, improve the Perfect Store compliance, land distribution and execution of the Company s innovation and to work with the Chief Purchasing Officer to co-create a longer-term category vision with customers.
Job Objectives:
Develop his or her categories so that all SKU`s have strong volume and excellent quality.
In order to do so he or she does everything possible to become an expert of his or her categories with excellent knowledge of the local as well as international markets.
Develop as many Private Labels as possible.
Ensure lowest cost and best terms and conditions for the company.
He works with all departments in collaboration in each subject, in order to get the best results for the company.
Key Responsibilities
Deliver best in class Category Management by taking an objective total category perspective when providing market, consumer and shopper insights to the customer.
Responsible for of the Range review process from inception through to implementation and delivery of post review analysis.
Delivery of an improved Perfect Store compliance through the creation of category-focused selling stories and proactive management of range.
Execution of the Company s innovations, through the creation of category focused selling stories, identifying listing opportunities/challenges and providing merchandising solutions to maximize on shelf delivery.
Delivery of an in- depth category performance understanding to help inform internal customer team decision making and strategy
Input into KPI setting and tracking against these, including Perfect Store, Core Range compliance and distribution.
Strategy development and vision
Tailor the category vision content to the customer and use to develop a 3 year Category strategy aligned with the retailer.
Ensure our interactions with the customer leads to a competitive advantage through understanding the Company s Vision and Account vision / strategies and ensuring a collaborative category relationship to enable aligned account strategy plans.
Understand and deploy vision to the shelf for the account, collaborating with Sales to set joint targets using the picture of success model.
Work with objectivity both with our external customers and internal customers.
Identify and push forward tailored range and execution opportunities for the account.
Customer relationships
Ensure Category growth and objectivity are at heart of all interactions with Customers.
Deliver a step change in customer engagement at all levels.
Delivery of customer relationships, meetings and interaction vs the contact strategy.
Develop good relationships with internal the Company s Purchasing and Account teams and ensure internal alignment behind customer category strategy.
First degree in any relevant field of study from a reputable academic institution.
Substantial category management experience within the (FMCG, Sales, Production, Food manufacturing) consumer goods.
Experience working for a retail chain organisation.
Hands on experience owning and driving sustainable category growth (at relative speed) in a fast paced organisation.
Strong commercial acumen and business/financial understanding.
Experience working with a Stage Gate Process/Model.
A willingness to roll sleeves up to actively elevate (and teach) category management expertise, process and understanding.
Advanced communication and senior stakeholder management skills;
Strong Emotional Intelligence.
Exceptional time management and project management skills
Scrupulous attention to detail.
Proactive & collaborative problem solving ability
Demonstrated ability to manage cost/budget, scope, schedule and risk.

Base Pay is N13, 500,000.00 per annum + other benefits.
