Post-Doctoral Associate in the Center for Interdisciplinary Data Science and Artificial Intelligence (CIDSAI) Dr. Hanan Salam

TheBias Ethics and Privacy Clusterwithin theCenter for Interdisciplinary Data Science and Artificial Intelligence (CIDSAI)at New York University Abu Dhabi seeks to recruit aPostdoctoral Associateunder the supervision of Professor Hanan Salam to work on the development of frameworks tools and theoretical foundations forbias detection and mitigation in AI & data science with a particular focus on applications relevant to the Arab world.

The successful applicant will join a multidisciplinary research team working at the intersection ofmachine learning algorithmic fairness human-computer interaction and responsible AI. The project aims to investigate how bias emerges in data pipelines and AI systems understand the design and development decisions that propagate social biases and develop theoretical and algorithmic approaches to mitigate them. Key responsibilities include developing bias detection tools building fairness-aware algorithms and contributing to practical guidelines and theoretical frameworks that address systemic bias in data-driven systems.

This position offers the opportunity to work in a vibrant research environment with faculty and collaborators across computer science data science design and ethics and to contribute to high-impact research that shapes the development of equitable and inclusive AI technologies in the Arab region.

Applicants must have a PhD in Computer Engineering Computer Science Data Science AI HCI or a closely related field (no more than 5 years since completing the doctoral degree) and a strong track record of research in areas such as algorithmic fairness bias in machine learning ethics in AI or sociotechnical systems. Strong programming and data analysis skills are essential. Preferred qualifications include experience working with interdisciplinary research.
