- Provide appropriate anesthetic procedures, both general and regional, according to prescribed medical standards for all surgical, dental, obstetric and gynecological, urological, plastic, orthopedic, radiology suit, ENT and ophthalmological operations.
- Attends to patients during operations, and institute remedial measures in case of adverse reaction or complications including determining the most suitable anesthetic agents and dosages required.
- Instructing for the provision of premedication procedures in the wards, monitor vital signs and replacing loss of blood and fluids through IV infusions, etc. according to the weekly roster. The number of sessions worked together with a Specialist/Consultant is determined by the level of the registrar training.
- Attend anesthesia clinic for clinical evaluation and assessment of fitness of patients undergoing surgical procedures under general, regional or MAC.
- Admits patients with coexisting medical condition, after consultation with seniors, for preoperative treatment. Take full medical history, perform complete clinical examination, and request various laboratory and radiological tests as necessary and in line with standard policy and procedures of the institution.
- Participates in post-operative management of seriously ill patients in the ICU, and treatment of patients with acute respiratory problems or needing artificial ventilation or cardiovascular support, blood transfusion, fluid and electrolyte balancing problems, etc. includes observing and checking regularly patient’s conditions to adjust life supporting equipment according to their needs and takes necessary medical actions if malfunctioning of equipment occurs.
- Carries outward rounds for preoperative evaluation and treatment of patients undergoing operations and post-operative follow up.
- Is first on call (in hospital) for emergency cases requiring anesthetics or resuscitation which range from 8 -16 hours on the assigned day (this duty is normally 3 days in 7, but during the leave or sickness of fellow anesthetist is on alternate days).
- Actively applies the risk management process in their daily duties.
- To ensure patients/families are given adequate information about management decisions and follow-up plans.
- To write comprehensive notes into the medical records or computer system as required for appropriate care provision.
- To be readily available when rostered on duty.
- To adhere to all policies, procedures, and code of conduct of Kuwait Hospital.
- Seeks to improve knowledge and understanding of effective risk management principles and practices through continuing personal development.
- Performs other related duties such as resuscitation of severely ill patients in the ICU, casualty, or other areas of the hospital, operating PC and adhering to HSE rules and regulations.
- Prepares and participate actively in the departmental and hospital scientific activities.
