Title: Certified Hydro Therapist Physiotherapist (Hospital).
Department: Physiotherapy / Rehabilitation / Physical Medicine.
Reporting to: Head of Physiotherapy / Rehab Consultant / Medical Director.
Work setting: Inpatient outpatient and daycare hydrotherapy services using hospital hydrotherapy / aquatic therapy pool.
Key responsibilities
Assess patients (musculoskeletal neurological postoperative chronic pain arthritic and balance disorders) for suitability for hydrotherapy and document comprehensive assessments.
Develop individualized hydrotherapy treatment plans with clear short and longterm functional goals aligned with the overall physiotherapy/rehab plan.
Deliver evidencebased hydrotherapy sessions (aquatic exercises gait training strengthening ROM balance and coordination training) using the therapeutic properties of warm water buoyancy and resistance.
Monitor patients physiological responses in water (cardiovascular respiratory pain levels fatigue exertion) and modify treatment intensity and techniques safely.
Assist patients safely in entering moving within and exiting the pool including use of hoists wheelchairs ramps and other transfer aids as needed.
Educate patients and families on hydrotherapy goals home programs precautions and continuation/transition to landbased physiotherapy where indicated.
Maintain accurate timely clinical documentation: assessments treatment notes progress reports outcome measures and discharge summaries.
Ensure pool safety and infectioncontrol standards: presession checks water quality parameters pool hygiene protocols equipment cleaning and emergencyresponse readiness.
Act as a resource person for hydrotherapy within the hospital; provide training and guidance to junior physiotherapists assistants and students.
Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and case conferences; contribute to treatment planning and early mobilization/rehab pathways.
Required qualifications & certifications
Bachelors degree in Physiotherapy (BPT) or equivalent from a recognized university; Masters in Physiotherapy with specialization in musculoskeletal / neuro / sports / cardiopulmonary is preferred.
Valid professional license/registration to practice physiotherapy in the relevant country/Emirate (e.g. MOH / DOH / DHA or equivalent).
Formal certification or documented training in Hydrotherapy / Aquatic Physiotherapy from a recognized body or institution.
Current certifications in Basic Life Support (BLS); Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) preferred due to waterimmersion risks.
Skills experience and competencies
23 years clinical experience as a physiotherapist with at least 1 year in hydrotherapy / aquatic physiotherapy in a hospital or rehabilitation setting (adjust as per band/seniority).
Strong clinical reasoning in musculoskeletal neurological and postsurgical rehabilitation with understanding of indications contraindications and risks of hydrotherapy.
Proficiency in designing and progressing aquatic exercise programs: strengthening endurance balance gait posture pain relief and functional retraining.
High level of vigilance and riskmanagement in a wet environment including emergency procedures safe manual handling and evacuation/ rescue protocols.
Excellent patienthandling communication and motivational skills including ability to support anxious or waterphobic patients and maintain professional empathy.
Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team and to train or supervise assistants and students in aquatic settings.
Physical safety and behavioral requirements
Ability to work for extended periods in a warm humid pool environment and to perform physical tasks such as assisting transfers guarding in deep and shallow water and demonstrating exercises.
