We are seeking a highly experienced Process Safety Engineer to join our engineering team in Dubai supporting the Detailed Engineering phase of a major onshore oil and gas project in the Middle East. The successful candidate will play a critical role in ensuring process safety design compliance hazard identification and risk mitigation throughout the engineering lifecycle of the project.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide technical expertise in process safety during the Detailed Engineering phase of the project.
- Review and approve safety studies and documentation including HAZID HAZOP SIL QRA FERA EERA and SIMOPS.
- Ensure compliance with international standards (e.g. API IEC NFPA) and client specifications.
- Interface with process piping instrumentation and layout teams to incorporate safety requirements into engineering deliverables.
- Lead or participate in safety design reviews including layout reviews and 3D model reviews.
- Develop or review Safety Philosophies Design Safety Case Reports and Fire and Gas Detection System Design.
- Coordinate with third-party consultants and verification bodies as needed.
- Support preparation of technical bid evaluations for safety-related equipment.
- Participate in client and internal audits technical workshops and project meetings.
- Ensure that the process safety design is fully integrated into the overall engineering design.
KEY QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelors Degree in Chemical Engineering or related discipline. A Masters degree is an advantage.
- Minimum 10 years of experience in the oil and gas industry with at least 7 years in process safety engineering.
- Strong background in Detailed Engineering for onshore oil and gas facilities.
- Demonstrated experience with Middle East-based projects particularly in the UAE Saudi Arabia Qatar or Oman.
- In-depth knowledge of international process safety standards (e.g. API IEC BS EN).
- Experience with software tools such as PHAST PHA-Pro DNV GL FLACS is a plus.
- Familiarity with local and international regulatory requirements.
- Strong interpersonal coordination and communication skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and deliver high-quality work in a fast-paced environment.
- TUV Functional Safety Engineer or equivalent (SIL) (Preferred)
- NEBOSH Certification in Process Safety (Preferred)
- IChemE or CCPS Membership (Preferred)
