Manager Biomedical Engineering

Day-to-Day Activities

Manages the day-to-day maintenance of a quality management system including the identification of risk issues, conducts investigations and audits and ensures corrective and preventative action are taken to mitigate the risk

Acts as a medical equipment technology expert on hospital committees as required

Train clinicians and other personnel on the proper use of equipment

Performs or coordinates assembly and installation, required safety inspection, and performance assurance on new medical equipment

Advises on specifications for purchases on new equipment and recommends replacement of obsolete or irreparable equipment

Provides new product evaluation as requested

Performs investigative evaluation of medical equipment and employee incidents / accidents

Analyzes malfunctions and performs or coordinates repairs and remediation of safety and recall work on a variety of medical equipment systems

Management of equipment service contracts, warranty compliance and department SLA’s

Provides data to the director of biomedical engineering for analysis of department operations and performance as required

Designing and Developing

Involves in the design, testing and development of a variety of medical devices, such as prosthetic limbs, artificial valves, joint replacements and other clinical equipment

Designs systems and products, such as artificial internal organs, artificial devices that replace body parts, and machines for diagnosing medical problems

Installs, adjust, maintain, repair, or provide technical support for biomedical equipment

Designs computer software to run complicated instruments, such as three-dimensional x-ray machines

Safety Requirements

Evaluates the safety, efficiency, and effectiveness of biomedical equipment

Schedules equipment testing and repair activities according to urgency of need

Schedules preventative maintenance in accordance with quality assurance plan

Operational Standards

Leads implementation and ongoing improvement of biomedical engineering management programs, including operational standards and effective industry specific key performance indicators

Provides support for all medical equipment services in terms of service, delivery, efficiency and cost effectiveness, and professionalism

Achieving Team Goals

Promotes and maintains effective communication systems within the department that ensure the team, managers/supervisors work together towards achieving the departmental objectives

Performs all duties in a professional, effective and confidential manner

Conducts performance reviews for reporting employees, by setting measurable goals and objectives and incorporating organizations vision and values

Motivates, organizes and encourages teamwork within the workforce to ensure set productivity targets are met
