HVAC Technician

Roles and responsibilities

To maintain all refrigeration, Heating, Ventilation & Air-conditioning equipment and installations in good working condition in all areas of the hotel by carrying out necessary repairs and preventive maintenance. Ensure all stocks and spares are well maintained and ordered. Carry out all maintenance works as directed by the Director of Engineering.

Key Roles & Responsibilities

Responsibilities includes but are not limited to the following: -

• Reports to the Engineering Supervisor regarding daily work progress and work order completion.
• Attains all A/C complaint reports on daily basis. Guest room trouble is given priority.
• Works closely with Engineering Supervisor and peers to carry out preventive maintenance and annual maintenance program.
• Follows all safety rules and regulations in job, departmental procedures and instructions.
• Carries out all other tasks assigned to him by his supervisor.
  

Other

These includes but are not limited to the following:-

• Able to read Building services, Air-conditioning, Refrigeration and Electrical drawings.
• Able to fault find and repair air-conditioning and building control systems. Good electrical knowledge.
• Knowledge of BMS systems.
• Experience of reciprocating Chillers and Air handling plant and cold rooms.
• Familiar with planned Preventive Maintenance and Safety programmes.
• Flexible and team player – able to work on own initiative.
• Good understanding of water treatment techniques and able to handle chemicals.
• Makes periodic inspection tours to check all refrigeration equipment functioning properly.
• Carries out guest room maintenance according to schedule programme.
• Works closely with electrician to carry out electrical work when required, including functions and parties.
• Daily refrigeration log sheet to be filled and temperature to be recorded.
• Works closely with peers to assist in their job when requested by supervisor.
• Keeps all necessary tools in good working condition, keep their working place neat and clean.
• Understand the Raffles Brand and operating standards.
• Participate and assist in other projects as required.
• Ensure that all HVAC stocks are ordered and that the stores are well managed and maintained.
  

Qualifications

PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES

• Good all round practical trade skills inclusive fabrication, installation and maintenance.
• Ability to do Gas and Arch welding
• Good English command

Desired candidate profile

1. Installation of HVAC Systems

• System Setup: Install heating, cooling, and ventilation systems according to the specifications and blueprints.
• Ductwork Installation: Install ductwork, piping, and other components required for the system to function correctly.
• Component Setup: Set up and connect electrical components, including thermostats, electrical panels, and wiring.
• System Testing: Test newly installed systems for proper operation, air quality, and energy efficiency.

2. Maintenance and Inspections

• Routine Inspections: Perform regular inspections and preventive maintenance on HVAC systems to ensure they are operating efficiently and are free from potential issues.
• Cleaning: Clean components such as filters, evaporators, and condenser coils to maintain airflow and efficiency.
• Check and Replace Components: Check refrigerant levels, replace air filters, and clean ducts or vents regularly to prevent clogs and maintain system functionality.
• Lubrication: Lubricate moving parts like fans and compressors to ensure smooth operation and reduce wear and tear.

3. Repair and Troubleshooting

• Diagnosing Issues: Identify problems with HVAC systems such as inadequate heating or cooling, strange noises, or airflow issues.
• Repairing Systems: Perform repairs on faulty HVAC systems, which may include replacing or repairing components such as compressors, thermostats, or motors.
• Troubleshooting: Use diagnostic tools and methods (such as thermometers, pressure gauges, and electrical testers) to determine the root cause of a problem and make the necessary repairs.

4. Refrigeration Systems

• Refrigerant Handling: Work with refrigerants, including the safe handling and refilling of refrigerant gases as per industry standards and regulations (e.g., EPA guidelines).
• Refrigeration Cycle: Troubleshoot issues with refrigeration systems in HVAC systems, including ensuring proper refrigeration cycles and temperature regulation.

5. System Modifications and Upgrades

• Energy Efficiency: Recommend and implement upgrades or modifications to HVAC systems that can improve energy efficiency, reduce costs, or improve performance.
• Retrofits: Install new energy-efficient units or components to replace outdated systems and ensure they meet modern standards and environmental regulations.

6. Customer Service and Communication

• Client Interaction: Communicate with customers to explain HVAC system issues, the work needed, and any necessary repairs or upgrades.
• Safety Education: Educate customers on proper HVAC maintenance and how to optimize the use of their systems to prolong their lifespan and improve efficiency.
• Service Reports: Provide customers with detailed service reports and invoices after work is completed, explaining what was done, parts replaced, and any recommendations for future maintenance.

7. Safety Compliance

• Adhere to Codes: Ensure all work is compliant with local, state, and federal regulations and safety standards, including the proper disposal of refrigerants and safe handling of electrical systems.
• Safety Protocols: Follow strict safety protocols when working with electrical components, heavy machinery, and refrigerants to minimize the risk of accidents or damage.
• Workplace Safety: Ensure that the work area is safe, organized, and free from hazards during both installations and repairs.
