Job Description

Roles and responsibilities


The Irrigation Inspector is responsible for ensuring that all irrigation systems installed on construction projects meet the required standards and specifications. This role involves conducting site inspections, verifying the quality of materials and workmanship, and ensuring compliance with environmental and safety regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct regular inspections of irrigation systems to ensure compliance with project plans and specifications.
  • Verify that all irrigation materials and equipment meet quality standards.
  • Document and report any defects or non-compliance issues.
  • Provide recommendations for corrective actions to resolve identified issues.
  • Collaborate with construction teams, landscape architects, and engineers to address and resolve irrigation-related issues.
  • Ensure that all irrigation activities comply with environmental regulations and safety protocols.
  • Prepare and submit detailed inspection reports.
  • Stay updated on industry standards, codes, and regulations related to irrigation systems.


Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience as an Irrigation Inspector or in a similar role.
  • Strong knowledge of irrigation systems, techniques, and environmental regulations.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction plans and specifications.
  • Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication and reporting skills.
  • Relevant certification (e.g., Certified Irrigation Inspector) is preferred.
  • Degree in civil engineering, agriculture, or a related field is an advantage.

Desired candidate profile

1. Site Inspections and Monitoring

  • Irrigation System Inspections: Conducting thorough inspections of irrigation systems to ensure they are installed as per the design plans. This includes verifying components such as pumps, pipes, valves, sprinklers, and controllers.
  • Water Flow and Pressure Checks: Monitoring the water flow, pressure, and distribution throughout the irrigation system to ensure uniform coverage and correct operation.
  • Identifying Issues: Inspecting for common irrigation system issues, such as leaks, clogging, inefficient watering, or faulty components that may affect system performance.

2. Quality Control and Compliance

  • System Testing and Evaluation: Testing irrigation systems to ensure compliance with local regulations, water conservation standards, and quality specifications. This includes evaluating the performance of pumps, filters, and pressure regulators.
  • Ensuring Compliance with Codes: Ensuring that the installation of irrigation systems meets local building codes, water-use regulations, and environmental standards.
  • Water Efficiency: Monitoring the system’s water efficiency, ensuring that water usage is optimized, and checking for any waste or misuse of resources.

3. Reviewing Plans and Designs

  • Design Plans Review: Collaborating with engineers, architects, and landscape designers to review irrigation plans and ensure they align with project goals and site-specific conditions.
  • Installation Verification: Verifying that irrigation systems are installed according to the approved design, including proper placement of components such as sprinklers, drip lines, and controllers.
  • Soil and Environmental Considerations: Evaluating soil conditions, water requirements, and plant types to ensure the irrigation system is tailored to the needs of the landscape or agricultural area.

4. Monitoring and Adjusting Systems

  • Adjusting Irrigation Schedules: Setting up or adjusting watering schedules based on environmental conditions, weather forecasts, and seasonal changes. This ensures water is being applied at optimal times for plant health and water conservation.
  • Weather-Based Adjustments: Using weather data and moisture sensors to adjust irrigation schedules and water usage, ensuring that systems are not overwatering or underwatering plants.
  • Maintaining Irrigation Components: Ensuring all irrigation components are properly maintained and that any faulty or damaged parts, like sprinkler heads, emitters, or pipes, are repaired or replaced as needed.
