Director of IT

Roles and responsibilities

The Director of IT will liaise with multiple departments across the business and report into the Chief of Operations. This role will be looked upon as the IT specialist with the focus on using and promoting the best technology and practices within the organisation.

The Director of IT will sit within the senior leadership team and will be involved in meetings to develop and implement IT strategy across the business allowing the company to achieve its goals. Being the IT specialist, this role will have a team that will be required to be mentored allowing for the best results to be achieved.

To be considered for this role, the successful candidate should possess a bachelors degree in information technology, computer science or related field and have a minimum of 12+ years of experience in an IT role or similar field. It will be a bonus if the candidate has worked within real estate previously but not essential.

Having over a decade of experience in the IT industry, our client requires the candidate to have exposure to multiple areas including IT Infrastructure, Cloud Computing, Cybersecurity, Software, Digital Transformation, Automation, Enterprise Systems or related sectors.

The ideal candidate will have excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and have strong negotiation skills. To be successful in this Director of IT role, the successful candidate will need to be organised and have the ability to get their point across effectively.

1. Leadership & Team Management

• Team Leadership: Leading and mentoring IT teams, which may include systems administrators, network engineers, software developers, data analysts, and other IT professionals.
• Hiring & Talent Management: Overseeing recruitment, retention, and professional development for IT staff to ensure the team has the necessary skills and capabilities.
• Cross-functional Collaboration: Working with other departments (e.g., HR, finance, marketing) to align IT with business objectives and ensure that IT systems support the needs of the organization.

2. Strategic Planning & IT Governance

• IT Strategy: Developing and executing long-term IT strategies that align with the organization's overall business goals. This involves defining IT roadmaps and prioritizing projects based on business needs.
• IT Governance: Implementing best practices for IT management and ensuring compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA, ISO 27001).
• Risk Management: Identifying potential risks related to IT infrastructure, security, or business continuity, and developing mitigation strategies.

3. Technology Management

• Infrastructure Management: Overseeing the design, implementation, and maintenance of IT infrastructure, including servers, networks, cloud systems, and data centers.
• Cloud Computing: Familiarity with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) to ensure scalable, secure, and efficient cloud infrastructure for the organization.
• Enterprise Software: Managing the implementation and integration of enterprise software solutions (e.g., ERP, CRM, HRM systems).
• Software Development: Understanding the software development life cycle (SDLC) and ensuring the delivery of high-quality software applications that meet business needs.
• Network and Cybersecurity: Ensuring that the company’s networks are secure, reliable, and scalable. Implementing cybersecurity measures to protect the organization’s data and IT systems.

4. Financial & Budget Management

• IT Budgeting: Developing and managing the IT budget, ensuring that spending aligns with business priorities and is cost-effective. This may involve negotiating with vendors and managing contracts.
• Cost Optimization: Identifying opportunities for cost-saving and resource optimization in IT operations, such as transitioning to cloud services or consolidating hardware.
• ROI Analysis: Ensuring that IT investments generate a measurable return on investment (ROI) and contribute to business growth.

5. Innovation & Continuous Improvement

• Technological Innovation: Keeping up with emerging technologies (e.g., AI, machine learning, blockchain, IoT) and evaluating how these can be leveraged to improve business operations.
• Process Optimization: Identifying areas for improvement in IT processes and workflows, driving continuous improvement through automation and streamlining operations.
• Digital Transformation: Leading the organization’s digital transformation initiatives by implementing new technologies that enhance business operations, customer experiences, and internal processes.
