Roles and responsibilities
- Specialist Designer in Design & Detailing of Civil & Structural works of Oil and Gas projects
- Must have hands-on experience in Concrete, Structural steel, Underground drainage & Layout drawing preparation for EPC and FEED projects
- Modelling experience in SP3D and experience in Navisworks / SPR / E3D / PDS / PDMS platform is must
- Knowledge in specification and design basis
- Ensure that works comply with the American codes and Standards
- Experience on preparation of MTO through XL spread sheet will be a plus point
- Be responsible for assessing effectiveness of working practices and systems with a view to continuously improving systems, personal and team performance
- Carry out work in accordance with Wood and project Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality Systems
- Maintain the required technical quality of work
- Identify scope and schedule changes in accordance with the Change Control Process
- Maintain planning on all work scopes
- Provide technical assistance to discipline assigned personnel as required
- Ensure, as far as practically possible, that all assigned work is carried out in compliance with the agreed schedule
- Keep up to date with technical developments
- Review, prepare, check work output of discipline assigned personnel
- Prepare estimates and assist in their review
- Maintain good communication with the team and client
- Maintain discipline filing system
- Encourage and provide lateral learning within the project
Qualifications
- Minimum Diploma Engineering in civil / structural or ITI
- Minimum 9 - 14 years post graduate experience
- Minimum 6 years’ experience in the oil and gas industry
- Minimum 4 years’ experience in the designation
- Modelling experience in SP3D is a must
Desired candidate profile
1. Advanced Civil Engineering Design Skills:
- Proficiency in CAD Software: Advanced skills in using design software like AutoCAD Civil 3D, MicroStation, or Bentley InRoads for creating detailed design plans and drawings.
- Design for Infrastructure: Expertise in designing roadways, stormwater drainage systems, utilities, grading, earthworks, and site layout.
- Site Development: Experience in developing designs for residential, commercial, or industrial sites, considering factors such as topography, zoning regulations, and environmental impact.
2. Understanding of Civil Engineering Principles:
- Deep knowledge of civil engineering principles, including hydrology, soil mechanics, structural design, and transportation engineering.
- Ability to apply principles like load-bearing analysis, structural stress, and geotechnical engineering to design safe and durable infrastructure.
3. Project Management & Coordination:
- Leadership: Leading a team of designers or junior engineers, providing guidance, review, and feedback on their work.
- Project Planning: Developing project schedules, budgets, and timelines, ensuring designs meet deadlines and client requirements.
- Collaboration: Coordinating with other teams such as structural engineers, environmental engineers, surveyors, and contractors to ensure that the designs are feasible and aligned with overall project goals.
4. Knowledge of Regulations & Standards:
- Strong understanding of local, state, and federal building codes, environmental regulations, and industry standards (e.g., AASHTO for transportation, OSHA for safety, EPA for environmental protection).
- Ensuring that designs meet safety standards and regulatory compliance, including stormwater management, traffic patterns, and utility design.
5. Site Analysis & Surveying:
- Ability to conduct or interpret land surveys, topographical surveys, and geotechnical investigations.
- Understanding of site constraints, such as land slopes, drainage patterns, and soil types, and how to incorporate these factors into the design.
6. Stormwater & Drainage Design:
- Proficiency in designing stormwater management systems, including retention ponds, detention basins, and swales.
- Knowledge of hydrological modeling and software (e.g., HEC-RAS, SWMM) to analyze stormwater runoff, flood risk, and drainage needs.
7. Construction Knowledge:
- Construction Methods & Materials: A solid understanding of construction techniques, materials, and methods to ensure that designs can be practically and safely constructed.
- Construction Documentation: Ability to prepare detailed construction drawings, specifications, and reports that guide contractors during the construction phase.
8. Cost Estimation & Budgeting:
- Cost Analysis: Ability to estimate costs for design, materials, and labor for civil engineering projects.
- Resource Management: Managing project budgets and ensuring designs are cost-effective without sacrificing quality or safety.
