Job Description

Roles and responsibilities

  • Assist with the serving of food, set-up and clearing of china, glass, and silver from service as well as attend to guest needs and requests.
  • Provide an expertly served dining experience conforming by clearing and resetting tables according to standards.

  • Previous experience in a similar role within 5* luxury hotel/brand standalone restaurant.
  • 1. Supporting Waitstaff and Servers

  • Assisting with Service: Supporting servers by bringing food and beverages to the table, refilling drinks, and clearing plates to ensure that guests’ needs are met promptly.
  • Maintaining Table Settings: Ensuring that all table settings are complete, adjusting as needed during service (e.g., adding or removing utensils, napkins, condiments).
  • Serving Drinks and Food: Helping with drink service (e.g., refilling water, serving wine or cocktails) and ensuring that food is served hot, in the correct order, and accurately.
  • 2. Guest Assistance

  • Greeting and Seating Guests: In some settings, the Assistant Server may assist with greeting guests, leading them to their table, or helping to explain the menu.
  • Guest Interaction: Interacting with guests in a polite and professional manner, ensuring their comfort and satisfaction, and responding to any basic requests.
  • Taking Drink Orders: Depending on the establishment, the Assistant Server may take drink orders or assist the server in suggesting drinks to accompany meals.
  • 3. Food and Beverage Preparation Support

  • Prepping Food and Drinks: Helping with food and drink preparation, including tasks like garnishing plates, assembling side dishes, or preparing beverages.
  • Assisting with Buffets or Stations: If the restaurant offers a buffet or self-service station, the Assistant Server may assist guests by refilling trays, maintaining cleanliness, and ensuring an organized setup.
  • 4. Maintaining Cleanliness and Organization

  • Clearing and Cleaning Tables: Clearing dirty dishes and ensuring that tables are cleaned and reset for new guests quickly.
  • Restocking Supplies: Ensuring that condiments, napkins, silverware, or glasses are fully stocked and available for both staff and guests.
  • Ensuring Dining Area Is Tidy: Keeping the dining area clean, organized, and presentable, including sweeping or vacuuming if necessary.
  • 5. Order Management and Coordination

  • Assisting with Order Deliveries: Helping the primary server deliver food and drinks to the correct table, ensuring that each guest’s order is accurate.
  • Managing Order Modifications: Assisting in taking note of any special dietary requests, allergies, or order modifications and ensuring these are communicated to the kitchen.
  • Preparing Items for Service: Helping to assemble salads, appetizers, and desserts before they are delivered to guests.
  • 6. Communication Skills

  • Clear Communication with Servers: Effectively communicating with servers, kitchen staff, and other team members to ensure orders are processed smoothly and promptly.
  • Informing Guests of Special Offers: Helping to communicate daily specials, promotions, or menu changes to guests when needed.
  • Managing Special Requests: Addressing any specific requests or needs from guests, such as seating preferences or adjustments to orders.
  • 7. Teamwork and Support

  • Collaborating with Colleagues: Working closely with servers, bartenders, kitchen staff, and other team members to ensure seamless service.
  • Assisting with Other Tasks: Helping colleagues with various tasks during service, such as restocking, prepping food, or ensuring the dining area is maintained.
  • Supporting during Busy Times: Lending a hand during peak service hours, such as assisting with large parties or busy periods.
