Job Description

Roles and responsibilities

First and foremost, support the overall, daily management of operational duties. This will mean deputizing for the Operations Manager, as and when required: you’ll step in on their behalf where necessary.

You will be expected to prioritize and continually improve the safety at the delivery station. You will be supervising logistics assistants, coordinators and delivery associates to ensure that every shipment is delivered meeting and exceeding the set operational KPIs.

You will be monitoring the coordinator and associate performance and coaching them when needed, partnering with supporting departments to improve logistics processes and operations, communicating with our delivery service providers to set our expectations and raise the bar on quality on their deliverables.

You will be expected to interview candidates for associate roles.

You will be responsible for briefing and monitoring the workload of all drivers and associates. Therefore, you’ll maintain a keen eye for detail, ensuring that all administrative tasks are accurately and fully completed. Moreover, you will measure and monitor overall workflows and daily metrics. This will enable you to assist the Operations Manager with tracking, trending and reporting on site performance, on a regular basis.

In addition to your day-to-day responsibilities, you will also help with training and mentoring new Associates, ensuring that they are provided with the knowledge needed to successfully carry out their tasks. Further to this, you’ll follow-up on and resolve any process-related issues as and when required.

You are expected to be flexible to work in different shifts and to do overtime when needed.

Finally, together with the Operations Manager, you will sufficiently resource your function from a personal standpoint. Resourcing, in this context, means multiple things: call-outs for training needs, absence and performance management, coaching and continuous monitoring of department productivity and many more.

Desired candidate profile

1. Supply Chain Management

  • Knowledge of logistics and supply chain processes, including inventory management, transportation, and warehousing.
  • Understanding of key performance indicators (KPIs) for tracking efficiency and effectiveness in logistics operations.

2. Team Leadership and Management

  • Ability to lead, train, and motivate a team of logistics staff, including drivers, warehouse personnel, and inventory managers.
  • Experience in scheduling shifts, delegating tasks, and ensuring productivity and efficiency in the logistics team.

3. Problem Solving and Decision-Making

  • Strong problem-solving skills to address issues such as delays, inventory shortages, and transportation bottlenecks.
  • Ability to make quick decisions in a fast-paced environment to keep operations on track.

4. Communication and Coordination

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for interacting with employees, suppliers, customers, and other departments.
  • Ability to coordinate logistics activities across multiple teams and stakeholders to ensure smooth operations.

5. Time Management and Organizational Skills

  • Excellent organizational skills to manage multiple logistics tasks simultaneously, ensuring timely deliveries and minimal delays.
  • Strong time management skills to balance competing priorities and ensure that deadlines are met.

6. Knowledge of Logistics Software

  • Proficiency with logistics management software (e.g., WMS – Warehouse Management System, TMS – Transportation Management System).
  • Familiarity with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software and tracking tools to manage inventory, shipments, and orders.

7. Regulatory Knowledge

  • Understanding of relevant laws and regulations regarding transportation, safety, and handling of goods (e.g., OSHA regulations, DOT regulations).
  • Knowledge of import/export requirements, customs procedures, and compliance.

8. Inventory and Warehouse Management

  • Ability to manage warehouse operations, including inventory control, stock replenishment, and product handling.
  • Experience in optimizing storage space and warehouse layout to increase efficiency.

9. Cost Control and Budgeting

  • Ability to monitor and control logistics costs, ensuring that operations are carried out within budget.
  • Experience with negotiating rates with suppliers, vendors, and transportation providers to optimize costs.
