Piping Supervisor

Roles and responsibilities

Five (5) years of formal piping supervisory experience in heavy industrial projects such as ship yards, refineries, petro-chemical complexes, power plants, etc.

Should be conversant with applicable safe working practices, quality & standards.

Ability to manage / control a multi-national workforce.

Ability to effectively interact with project team members, clients, subcontractors, and multinational employees.

Considerable experience of supervising piping construction staff to achieve effective construction execution.

Read, write and communicate using English language sufficient to perform job functions (other preferences will be given for special language skills where there is a business need)

Hands-on job senior/general foreman experience in piping construction.

Possess excellent leadership skills and have the ability to effectively manage multiple team of pipe workers.

Contributes to the identification of opportunities for continuous improvement of systems, processes and practices taking into account ‘international best practice’, improvement of business processes, cost reduction and productivity improvement.

Technical competencies:

Desired candidate profile

1. Piping Design and Layout: Proficiency in interpreting piping design drawings and layouts, ensuring proper installation of pipes, fittings, and valves.
2. Piping Materials Knowledge: Understanding the different materials used in piping systems (e.g., steel, PVC, copper, and composite materials) and their applications.
3. Welding and Fabrication: Knowledge of welding processes and fabrication techniques for piping, including the use of welding tools and machinery.
4. Pressure Testing: Conducting pressure tests on piping systems to ensure integrity and functionality before commissioning.
5. Hydraulic and Pneumatic Systems: Knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic systems and their integration into piping systems.

Leadership and Supervision

1. Team Leadership: Managing and leading a team of piping fitters, welders, and laborers, ensuring the work is completed according to project schedules and specifications.
2. Training and Mentoring: Training new employees or less experienced team members in best practices, safety standards, and technical skills.
3. Workforce Scheduling: Organizing and scheduling tasks, ensuring the appropriate resources are allocated for each phase of the project.
4. Conflict Resolution: Handling any issues or disputes that arise on-site, ensuring a positive and productive working environment.

Project Management and Coordination

1. Scheduling and Planning: Overseeing the planning and scheduling of piping installation and maintenance activities to meet deadlines.
2. Coordination with Engineers: Collaborating with project engineers and other technical professionals to ensure piping systems are designed and implemented according to specifications.
3. Quality Control: Ensuring all piping installations are performed to the highest quality standards, following both company procedures and industry codes.
4. Progress Monitoring: Tracking project progress, ensuring timely completion of tasks, and identifying any potential delays or issues.
5. Resource Management: Managing materials, tools, and equipment to ensure the necessary resources are available when needed for work to proceed efficiently.

Knowledge of Codes, Standards, and Regulations

1. Piping Codes and Standards: In-depth knowledge of industry standards such as ASME, ANSI, and ASTM for piping systems, as well as local building and safety codes.
2. Health and Safety Regulations: Understanding of health and safety regulations (e.g., OSHA standards) related to piping systems and construction sites.
3. Environmental Regulations: Ensuring compliance with environmental regulations, particularly when working with hazardous materials or systems that may affect the environment.
4. Inspection and Certification: Knowledge of inspection processes, ensuring that all piping installations are inspected and certified by qualified authorities.
