Roles and responsibilities
1. Technical Knowledge
- AV Equipment Expertise: A solid understanding of various AV equipment, such as microphones, projectors, speakers, video cameras, soundboards, lighting systems, and telecommunication tools.
- Signal Flow and Connectivity: Knowledge of how audio and video signals are transmitted and processed, including familiarity with HDMI, VGA, SDI, audio cables, and wireless connections.
- Computer Proficiency: AV Technicians often need to operate specialized software for presentations, video conferencing, or media playback, as well as troubleshoot computer-related AV issues.
2. Troubleshooting and Problem-Solving
- Identifying and Fixing Issues: Quickly identifying and resolving problems such as poor audio quality, video signal loss, equipment malfunctions, or connectivity issues during an event or performance.
- Real-Time Problem-Solving: The ability to address AV issues immediately during events without disrupting the flow of a presentation or performance.
3. Attention to Detail
- Ensuring Proper Setup: Ensuring that all AV equipment is properly set up, calibrated, and tested before an event or presentation. This includes checking sound levels, video clarity, lighting angles, and syncing devices.
- Precision in Adjustments: Making adjustments to sound, video, or lighting levels to ensure optimal performance for the intended effect or event.
4. Communication Skills
- Collaborating with Team Members: AV Technicians often work as part of a team with event coordinators, performers, presenters, and other technical staff, requiring clear communication to ensure smooth operations.
- Client Interaction: Communicating with clients to understand their specific AV needs for events and making recommendations based on their requirements.
5. Knowledge of AV Software
- Presentation Software: Familiarity with software like PowerPoint, Keynote, or Google Slides to control slideshows, videos, and other media.
- Audio and Video Editing Software: Basic knowledge of editing software (e.g., Adobe Premiere, Final Cut Pro) to assist with video production, or to make quick edits during live broadcasts or events.
- Control Systems: Expertise with control systems such as Crestron, Extron, or AMX for managing integrated AV systems in large venues.
6. Time Management and Organizational Skills
- Event Preparation: Organizing AV equipment setup well in advance of an event to ensure everything is in place before the event starts.
- Efficient Setup and Tear-Down: Managing time effectively to set up and tear down AV equipment quickly and without errors, especially when working on tight schedules between events.
- Coordination of Multiple Devices: Managing multiple AV devices simultaneously to ensure that everything runs on time during a live event.
7. Understanding of Sound and Lighting
- Sound Mixing and Balance: Adjusting audio levels for microphones, speakers, and other sound devices to ensure clear and balanced sound throughout an event.
- Lighting Control: Understanding how to adjust lighting setups for optimal visibility, ambiance, and visual effects for both presenters and audiences.
- Acoustics Knowledge: Understanding how to optimize sound in different venues based on acoustics and ensuring that sound equipment is placed effectively to minimize echoes or distortion.
Desired candidate profile
- Assists in providing technical support and setup of AV equipment to the Meeting & Events, and guests.
- Assist in guiding the users to help set up AV systems or resolve escalated issues.
- Troubleshoots and maintains all the AV equipment’s.
- Hotel Guest Rooms TV channels and transmission systems are up-to-date and in operation all the time.
- Ensure every month that an inventory is conducted for all equipment used for Meeting & Events.
Requirements:
- Experience as AV technician is required but not essential
- Ability to find creative solutions, taking ownership of duties and tasks assigned
- Personal integrity, with the ability to work in an environment that demands excellence
- Experience working with IT systems on various platforms
- Strong communication skills
