Desired candidate profile
1. Conceptual and Detailed Design
- Creative Conceptualization: Leading the creative process for developing innovative, functional, and aesthetically pleasing architectural concepts that align with client needs and project requirements.
- Design Development: Transitioning initial concepts into detailed design solutions, including floor plans, elevations, sections, and 3D models. The designs should meet both functional requirements and aesthetic goals.
- Sustainability and Environmental Considerations: Integrating sustainable design practices and environmental considerations into projects, such as energy efficiency, use of sustainable materials, and green building certifications (e.g., LEED).
- Technical Drawings and Specifications: Overseeing the preparation of technical drawings and documentation (CAD or BIM models) for construction purposes. These drawings must comply with industry standards and local building codes.
2. Project Leadership and Coordination
- Project Coordination: Leading and coordinating the design team, which may include junior architects, designers, engineers, and drafters, to ensure the design vision is executed accurately.
- Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Working closely with engineers (structural, mechanical, electrical) to ensure that the design is feasible and integrates well with building systems. Collaborating with contractors, consultants, and other stakeholders.
- Client Liaison: Communicating with clients to understand their vision, requirements, and budget constraints. Presenting design proposals, revising designs based on client feedback, and maintaining a strong relationship with the client throughout the design and construction process.
3. Design Quality and Innovation
- Design Excellence: Ensuring that the design meets high-quality standards, adhering to aesthetic and functional principles while pushing the boundaries of innovation and creativity.
- Code Compliance: Ensuring that all designs comply with relevant building codes, zoning regulations, and accessibility standards (e.g., ADA compliance).
- Building Performance: Designing spaces that are not only aesthetically pleasing but also functional, comfortable, and safe for occupants. This includes considerations for acoustics, lighting, ventilation, and user experience.
4. Managing Budgets and Schedules
- Budget Management: Collaborating with project managers and clients to ensure the design stays within the specified budget. Ensuring that design decisions align with the overall financial parameters of the project.
- Timeline Adherence: Managing design milestones and deadlines to ensure that the project progresses on schedule. Coordinating the design team to ensure timely submission of designs, documents, and approvals.
- Risk Management: Identifying potential design challenges and risks early in the project and developing strategies to mitigate them, including addressing issues related to construction feasibility, cost overruns, and schedule delays.
5. Construction Documentation and Oversight
- Construction Drawings and Specifications: Overseeing the preparation and finalization of construction documents, including detailed drawings and material specifications.
- Tendering and Procurement: Assisting in the selection of contractors and suppliers, providing input on tender documents and ensuring that construction teams understand and implement the design intent.
- Construction Oversight: Providing ongoing support during the construction phase, ensuring that the design is being implemented correctly, and making necessary adjustments based on site conditions and contractor feedback.
6. Mentorship and Team Development
- Leadership: Leading by example and mentoring junior architects, designers, and interns. Providing guidance, training, and feedback to help them grow professionally.
- Team Building: Fostering a collaborative and creative environment within the design team, encouraging open communication and innovative thinking.
- Knowledge Sharing: Promoting best practices in design, project management, and sustainability, and ensuring that the team is up to date with the latest trends and technologies in architecture.
