Desired candidate profile

1. Road Design and Planning

  • Assisting in Road Design: Supporting senior engineers in the design of new highways, roads, intersections, and other transportation infrastructure. This may include designing road alignments, cross-sections, pavement structures, drainage systems, and signage.
  • Using CAD Software: Utilizing software tools like AutoCAD, Civil 3D, or MX Road to create road designs and layouts. These tools are used to draft and model road alignments, cross-sections, and grading.
  • Road Safety Audits: Assisting in the analysis and identification of potential hazards in road designs. Ensuring that the design complies with safety standards and regulations.
  • Traffic Analysis and Modeling: Helping conduct traffic flow analysis, junction modeling, and capacity assessments to ensure the road system can handle expected traffic volumes efficiently.

2. Project Support and Coordination

  • Supporting Project Managers: Assisting in the coordination of highway engineering projects, including preparation of schedules, cost estimates, and resource allocation.
  • Site Visits: Participating in site visits to monitor construction progress, assess conditions, and support quality control and assurance.
  • Collaboration with Contractors: Communicating with contractors, subcontractors, and suppliers to ensure the effective execution of highway projects according to the design specifications.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Preparing reports and documentation related to design calculations, progress updates, safety inspections, and compliance checks.

3. Structural and Geotechnical Support

  • Geotechnical Assessments: Assisting in the analysis of soil conditions and geological factors that impact road design and construction, such as slope stability and drainage.
  • Pavement Design: Supporting the design of pavement structures based on traffic loads, soil types, and climate conditions to ensure durability and longevity.
  • Bridge Design and Inspection: In some cases, supporting the design of bridges or culverts that are part of the highway system, or assisting with bridge inspections to assess structural integrity.

4. Environmental and Regulatory Compliance

  • Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs): Assisting with environmental assessments to understand and mitigate the environmental impact of highway projects. This could involve helping with noise studies, pollution control, and working to protect local ecosystems.
  • Adhering to Local Regulations: Ensuring designs and plans comply with local, regional, and national regulations, including safety standards, traffic management regulations, and environmental guidelines.
  • Health and Safety Standards: Helping ensure that highway construction projects comply with health and safety regulations, including site safety audits and risk assessments.

5. Traffic Management and Road Maintenance

  • Traffic Management Plans: Assisting in the development of traffic management strategies during construction to minimize disruption, such as detours, road closures, and the use of traffic signals.
