Electrical Designer

Roles and responsibilities

• Ensures quality in design, technical accuracy in the preparation of drawings, material quantities, etc. including reviewing others work at more senior levels
• Plans assigned work effectively and obtains / provides information liaising with the project team and line manager, in time to control man - hours and achieve targets
• Carries out site visits / surveys and provides inputs to site visit reports
• Assists the designers with the preparation of electrical drawings
• Provide electrical engineering support to the other engineering disciplines
• Attend discipline specific and general training courses where required
• Ensures effective communications among other engineering disciplines and project management
• Coordinate within members of discipline, other engineering disciplines within the organization or project team as well as with Clients, third parties, vendors etc.
  

Qualifications

• Diploma in Electrical Engineering
• Minimum 5 years of experience
• Technically oriented, mechanically inclined, good at mathematics and talented at translating intangible concepts into hands - on project plans
• Competent user of CAD software
• Thorough knowledge and understanding of the Electrical engineering design and analysis
• Experience in FEED, Brownfield Engineering
• PDS, PDMS, SP3D 3D Modelling or 2D Drafting
• Basic Knowledge on SPEL
• In - depth knowledge of design tools – AutoCAD and MicroStation
  

• Educational Background: A degree in electrical engineering or a related field.
• Experience: Typically requires 5-10 years of experience in electrical design, with a focus on relevant industries (e.g., commercial, industrial, or infrastructure).
• Licensure: Professional Engineer (PE) license may be preferred or required, depending on the employer and location.

• Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills to address design challenges effectively.
• Leadership: Ability to lead design teams and foster a collaborative working environment.

Desired candidate profile

1. Design Development: Lead the design of electrical systems, including power distribution, lighting, and fire alarm systems, ensuring they meet project specifications and standards.
2. Project Management: Oversee project timelines, budgets, and resources, coordinating with other engineering disciplines and stakeholders.
3. Technical Documentation: Prepare detailed design drawings, specifications, and calculations for electrical systems using design software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit).
4. Quality Assurance: Review designs and documentation for accuracy, compliance with codes, and adherence to best practices.
5. Client Interaction: Communicate with clients to understand project requirements, present design concepts, and provide technical support.
6. Mentorship: Provide guidance and training to junior designers and engineers, fostering their professional development.
7. Field Support: Conduct site visits to oversee installation, address issues, and ensure compliance with design specifications.
