Laboratory Technician

Roles and responsibilities

• Prepare samples or chemical solutions and equipment for use in lab experiments or classroom exercises.
• Set up equipment for use in science and/or art classes; ensure proper operation of equipment, make repairs, and report major deficiencies to supervisor.
• Assist students in lab experiments or classroom exercises; provide instruction to students on the use of laboratory and artistic equipment. Depending on the specific position, this may include specialized scientific or artistic equipment requiring a detailed knowledge of the area of specialty.
• Maintain inventories of supplies and equipment. Carry out the procurement process (ordering, technical evaluation, and receiving) of supplies and equipment.

  Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Science.
• Minimum two years experience as a School Laboratory Technician.

• Technical Proficiency: Strong understanding of laboratory equipment, instruments, and techniques used in biology, chemistry, and physics.

• Safety Knowledge: Familiarity with safety protocols and regulations to ensure a safe laboratory environment for students and staff.

• Preparation Skills: Ability to prepare and organize materials, reagents, and equipment for experiments and demonstrations.

• Attention to Detail: Strong observational skills to ensure accuracy in experiments and to maintain equipment and supplies.

• Troubleshooting Skills: Ability to identify and resolve technical issues with laboratory equipment and procedures.

• Communication Skills: Effective communication with teachers and students, explaining procedures and safety protocols clearly.

• Record Keeping: Competence in maintaining accurate records of experiments, inventory, and equipment maintenance.

• Teamwork: Ability to work collaboratively with teachers and other staff to support curriculum objectives.
