SENIOR CONSTRUCTION MANAGER

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE:

Senior Construction Manager Projects plans and supervises a wide range of construction projects from start to finish. He will organize and oversee construction procedures and ensure they are completed in a timely and efficient manner. Must be wellversed in all construction methodologies and procedures. The goal will be to ensure all projects are delivered on time according to requirements and without exceeding budget.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Collaborate with engineers architects etc. to determine the specifications of the project
• Negotiate contracts with external vendors to reach profitable agreements
• Obtain permits and licenses from appropriate authorities
• Determine needed resources (manpower equipment and materials) from start to finish with attention to budgetary limitations
• Plan all construction operations and schedule intermediate phases to ensure deadlines will be met
• Acquire equipment and material and monitor stocks to timely handle inadequacies
• Hire contractors and other staff and allocate responsibilities
• Supervise the work of laborers mechanics etc. and give them guidance when needed
• Evaluate progress and prepare detailed reports
• Ensure adherence to all health and safety standards and report issues

KEY SKILLS:

• Bachelors degree in civil engineering construction management architecture or a related field is typically required. Some employers may prefer candidates with a masters degree or additional certifications.
• Candidates should have a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in construction project management preferably with experience in design consultancy firms. Previous experience in a senior or leadership position on construction projects is highly desirable.
• Comprehensive understanding of construction processes methods materials and equipment as well as knowledge of building codes regulations and industry standards. Familiarity with architectural design principles and practices is also beneficial.
• Proficiency in project management principles including project planning scheduling budgeting resource management and risk management. Experience with project management software such as Primavera P6 or Microsoft Project is often required.
