A ten-day mourning has been announced in Dubai following the passing of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai and the Minister of Finance and Industry, on Wednesday.
The UAE Ministry of Presidential Affairs has mourned the passing away of Sheikh Hamdan. The UAE President declared three days of mourning and flags to be flown at half-mast starting today (March 24) and to be raised next Saturday, March 27th.

Prayers will be restricted to family members due to the pandemic circumstances. The absentee prayer will be performed for the late Sheikh Hamdan, in the state’s mosques today after the Maghrib prayer, according to WAM.
The news of HH Sheikh Hamdan’s passing was announced by his brother, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, through his official Twitter account.
Sheikh Hamdan was the second son of Sheikh Rashid Bin Saeed Al Maktoum, who passed away in 1990 after ruling the emirate for 32 years, beginning in 1958.
Sheikh Hamdan spent his life in Dubai, studying at Al-Ahlia school before traveling to Bell School of Languages in Cambridge, according to Gulf news.
Sheikh Hamdan was one of the UAE’s leading supporters of thoroughbred racing, which has become synonymous with the emirate.
