Excited Indian expatriates celebrated the Republic Day of their country by virtually witnessing the flag hoisting ceremony, which took place in Dubai at the Consulate General of India.
As the Indian flag was hoisted early Tuesday morning by the Consul General of India to Dubai, Dr. Aman Puri, hundreds participated, accompanied by the Indian National Anthem's singing.
The normally jubilant celebrations were noticeably low-key this year because of Covid-19 induced limitations and social distancing norms. The Consulate celebrations included Ramdas Athawale, the Indian Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment.
Only Consulate officials participated in the flag hoisting ceremony at the Consulate. Dr. Puri then read out the address of Indian President Ram Nath Kovind to the people. The President lauded the farmers, soldiers, and scientists of India and said their efforts on Republic Day call for special appreciation.
As for the country's efforts to combat Covid-19, the President of India said that without the constitutional importance of fraternity among the country's citizens, a successful response to the pandemic would not have been possible.
