Position Overview

We are seeking a highly experienced and professional Governess / Personal Carer / Personal Trainer SEN Qualified Working with UHNW / UHNWI Family to support the education development behaviour and overall well-being of two young children aged 4 and 2 within a fully staffed UHNW private household.

This is primarily a governess and child-development role rather than a traditional nanny position. The successful candidate will take an active role in the childrens education development behaviour routines and overall progression working closely with the parents school/nursery nannies and wider household team. We are particularly interested in candidates who have SEN training or substantial professional experience supporting children with additional learning behavioural sensory attention or developmental needs.

The ideal candidate will be warm and nurturing but also confident structured and consistent. She should be capable of setting appropriate boundaries encouraging independence and managing challenging behaviour calmly and effectively. The family travels regularly internationally so flexibility and extensive travel experience are essential.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Education & Development
  • Take responsibility for supporting the childrens educational and developmental progress.
  • Create engaging age-appropriate learning opportunities for both children.
  • Support the 4-year-old with early literacy phonics reading handwriting numeracy and school-readiness skills.
  • Reinforce learning from school through structured but enjoyable activities at home.
  • Introduce the 2-year-old to developmentally appropriate early learning through play books language music sensory activities and exploration.
  • Encourage curiosity confidence independence concentration and a genuine enjoyment of learning.
  • Identify areas where either child may require additional support and develop appropriate strategies.
  • Select suitable books educational resources games and activities.
  • Monitor developmental and educational progress and communicate regularly with the parents.
SEN & Behavioural Support
  • Use an SEN-informed approach to support individual learning styles and developmental needs.
  • Experience with areas such as attention and concentration sensory needs emotional regulation behavioural challenges and executive-function development is highly desirable.
  • Recognise triggers and patterns in behaviour and implement appropriate consistent strategies.
  • Help the children develop emotional regulation patience resilience and age-appropriate coping skills.
  • Establish clear calm and consistent boundaries.
  • Use positive reinforcement and developmentally appropriate behaviour-management techniques.
  • Adapt educational activities to maintain engagement without creating unnecessary pressure.
  • Liaise with teachers therapists or other professionals where required and implement recommended strategies consistently at home.
  • Maintain discretion and sensitivity regarding all aspects of the childrens development.
School & Nursery Support
  • Manage and oversee school/nursery preparation and routines.
  • Ensure uniforms bags homework reading books and necessary materials are organised.
  • Liaise appropriately with teachers and school staff.
  • Keep parents informed of important school communications progress or concerns.
  • Attend relevant school meetings or appointments when requested.
  • Support homework reading and educational projects.
  • Help establish strong habits around learning organisation and responsibility from an early age.
Routine Manners & Independence
  • Establish and maintain consistent daily routines alongside the childrens nannies.
  • Encourage excellent manners kindness respect and age-appropriate social skills.
  • Teach independence including dressing tidying belongings looking after possessions and completing age-appropriate tasks.
  • Support positive sibling relationships and appropriate conflict resolution.
  • Encourage good behaviour in restaurants during travel at activities and in social environments.
  • Act as a positive role model at all times.
Activities & Enrichment
  • Research and organise high-quality extracurricular and enrichment opportunities appropriate to each childs age and interests.
  • Plan educational outings museum visits cultural activities sports arts and other experiences.
  • Organise creative and stimulating activities during school holidays.
  • Arrange and supervise playdates where required.
  • Balance structured learning with active play imaginative play and downtime.
  • Avoid excessive reliance on screens and actively engage the children in meaningful activities.
Travel
  • Travel extensively with the family internationally as required.
  • Maintain the childrens routines education and behavioural expectations while travelling.
  • Prepare appropriate educational resources activities and entertainment for journeys and holidays.
  • Work effectively alongside nannies and other household staff while travelling.
  • Be highly organised adaptable and comfortable with changing schedules different time zones and international environments.
WORKING WITHIN THE HOUSEHOLD
  • The household is fully staffed and the Governess will work alongside nannies housekeepers drivers and other household staff.
  • The Governess is not expected to undertake general housekeeping or household errands. Her focus should remain on the childrens education development routines and well-being.
  • She must be comfortable working collaboratively while also taking ownership of the educational and developmental aspects of the childrens daily lives.
  • Clear communication between the Governess parents nannies and school is extremely important.


Requirements
CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS
Essential
  • Fluent/native-level English with excellent spoken and written communication.
  • Significant professional experience working as a Governess SEN Governess Teacher Early Years Educator or highly educational Nanny.
  • Strong knowledge of early childhood development.
  • Experience working with children approximately 25 years old.
  • Strong understanding of early literacy phonics numeracy and school readiness.
  • Confident and experienced with behaviour management.
  • Warm patient and nurturing while maintaining firm and consistent boundaries.
  • Highly organised proactive and capable of taking initiative.
  • Comfortable working within a fully staffed UHNWI household.
  • Experience travelling internationally with private families.
  • Flexible regarding travel and changing schedules.
  • Excellent discretion and understanding of confidentiality.
  • Current paediatric First Aid/CPR certification.
  • Excellent references and background checks.
Highly Desirable
  • SEN qualification certification or substantial SEN experience.
  • Experience supporting children with ADHD traits attention difficulties sensory-processing differences emotional regulation or behavioural challenges.
  • Qualified Teacher Status Early Years qualification CACHE Level 3 Montessori training Norland qualification psychology/child-development background or equivalent.
  • Experience communicating and collaborating with schools educational psychologists occupational therapists speech therapists or other child-development professionals.
  • Previous experience within a high-profile or UHNWI household.
