Senior Registrar Emergency Medicine

The Role:
We are looking for suitably experienced Senior Emergency Medicine Registrars (ACEM accredited positions) to join a large teaching Hospital.

Salary package - $109,929-$137,351

Overview of the work area and position:
The Emergency Department sees over 90 000 patients per annum, with approximately 20% paediatric age group. The department has a diverse and interesting case mix, with a high trauma load due to its role as the only trauma centre in this catchment area.

Staffing for the department consists of thirty-three (33) consultants, making approximately twenty-two (22) full time equivalents including an Academic Chair in Road Trauma and Emergency Medicine. Consultants are present in the department from 8.00am until midnight seven days a week. Full time and part time applicants may be considered.

The department is accredited for 24 months of advanced training in emergency medicine with the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine, including accreditation for the paediatric requirement. There are accredited rotations available in anaesthetics, intensive care, medicine, surgery, neonatal intensive care, paediatrics and to emergency rotations at an urban district hospital. Rotations can be arranged to other areas as required.

There is a comprehensive training program for both the primary and fellowship curricula which all College trainees are able to attend. Specific support for exam preparation for both the primary and fellowship examinations is available. There is also the opportunity to engage in research activities for both personal interest and to fulfill College requirements.

Registrars are part of a 24-hour roster, covering 7 days a week. They are expected to provide direct patient care, supervise junior medical staff and to work under the supervision of consultant staff. Development of skills in specific areas such as airway management, ultrasound, trauma, toxicology and other invasive procedures is supported and encouraged. There may also be opportunity for registrars with the requisite skills to be fractionally appointed to the Capital Region Retrieval Service (CRRS). Registrars also interested in teaching are able to be involved in the teaching of medical students for the ANU Medical School program.

Senior Registrars will be given additional non-clinical time and asked to take on an administrative and formal teaching role within the department. The position would be ideally suited to registrars in their final 12-18 months of training.

The Hospital:
The Hospital is a 600+ bed tertiary trauma and referral hospital providing services to the region and south eastern New South Wales (population 500,000). The hospital provides services in all specialties except major burns, spinal injuries and solid organ transplantation. There are accredited training programs in all major specialties. The hospital is the principal teaching hospital of the Australian National University (ANU) Graduate Medical Program.

Skills & Qualifications Required:

• Be registered or be eligible for full registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
• Be an advanced trainee in Emergency Medicine, preferably in the final year of advanced training
