Sound Tutor Responsible to Programme Leader Production Arts Scope of the Job Responsible to: Programme Leader Production Arts Works Closely with: Lighting Tutor and Video Tutor, Production Manager and Technicians Job Purpose Alongside the Programme Leader Production Arts and other colleagues, the Sound Tutor will develop and deliver under and post graduate training and assessment in Sound Design and Schematics to a world leading industry standard. Duties and Responsibilities Reporting to the Programme Leader Production Arts of the Academy, the Sound Tutor shall execute the following tasks and responsibilities: Leadership and training of students on the production arts courses in professional theatre and event sound and relevant technologies. Contributing to the Academy s commitment to the continuous raising of standards in the training of students for careers in the arts and entertainment industry and development of new technologies. Maintaining the professional currency of the training in theatre sound and new technologies through contact with the industry, for both staff development and to maintain a professional currency of the curriculum. Training and Tuition: Developing the sound syllabus for the BA and Post Graduate Production Arts programme. Teaching all undergrad and postgrad Sound syllabus. Supervision and guidance of students fulfilling a sound role on Academy productions and projects, working with external creatives and the Academy Production Manager and Sound Technician. Assessment of students fulfilling a sound role on Academy productions and projects. Productions: Close liaison with other departments, in particular those relating to production. Maintaining and communicating to other departments a schedule of the Production Department s activities. Other related technical duties that may arise as a member of the Production Arts Programme team. Finance: To manage spending and reconciliation of any budget designated. To research and propose any capital expenditure to keep in line with current industry developments. Health and Safety: To engage with relevant Health and Safety training regarding the teaching and delivery of sound and its technology. To be familiar and comply with current Health and Safety regulations relevant to the industry. To ensure that personnel and students adhere to safe working practices. Key Interactions The Lead Sound Tutor is part of the Teaching Faculty, directly responsible to the Programme Leader Production Arts. Knowledge and Experience Essential: Relevant undergraduate qualification. A strong background of working in professional theatre sound in a producing environment. Experience of teaching and working at HE level. Conversant with current and developing theatre sound technologies. Excellent IT skills including QLab Flexible approach to working and developing the post. A determined and efficient individual. Desirable: Relevant postgraduate qualification. Budget Management Basic understanding of AutoCAD and WYSIWYG Core Competencies Delivery through: Decision making and solving problems Building teams and communication Facilitating change Development through: Resilience Driving results Managing Stakeholders
