Job Description

The Role:
We are seeking a motivated and experienced Consultant General Physician with subspecialty interests to take on an exciting role working with the acute medicine team - Life in Tasmania provides a quality work/life balance.

The department of Medicine has a team of eleven general medicine physicians across the region currently providing general medicine services and have subspecialties/interests in endocrinology, geriatrics, nephrology, cardiology and infectious diseases.

The position involves management of patients in the rehabilitation service, located in a purpose-built ward. The department has solid junior doctor support with a Registrar and an RMO. The Staff Specialist in General Medicine will provide clinical and medical leadership to a multi-disciplinary team delivering inpatient and ambulatory rehabilitation services to the community. 

This position will be attractive to a highly skilled and motivated medical professional who views challenges as opportunities and is driven by a passion to improve healthcare in the complex world of modern health systems. The right applicant will play a key role in developing health care at both patient and system levels. Sub-specialty interests in rehab or geriatrics would be an advantage.

You will be required to participate in an out-of-hours on call roster.

In addition, you will be supported in an academic appointment with the University of Tasmania, if desired

You will be working in an innovative and dynamic organisation dedicated to improving the health and wellbeing of the community. You will be working alongside over 1200 full time equivalent staff in multidisciplinary teams across two acute hospitals, three district hospitals and seven community health centres.

The health service serves a population of over 160,000 and faces several challenges with high levels of chronic disease and an ageing population. The health service works in close partnership with general practice and other health and social care providers throughout the region.

Skills & Qualifications required:
Eligible for registration with AHPRA
Fellowship of The Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) or equivalent
