Tunneling and Underground Structures Engineer
Job Summary
- Design and develop underground structures including cut and cover tunnels and stations utilizing industry-standard engineering software and methodologies
- Conduct geotechnical investigations and structural analysis to ensure safety and feasibility of tunneling projects
- Prepare detailed engineering drawings specifications and technical documentation for construction and stakeholder review
- Oversee site supervision and quality assurance during tunnel construction and underground structure installation
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including architects contractors and project managers to ensure project objectives are met
- Develop and implement safety protocols and ensure compliance with applicable building codes regulations and industry standards
- Manage project timelines budgets and resources while maintaining quality standards
- Perform risk assessments and develop mitigation strategies for underground construction challenges
- Communicate project progress findings and recommendations to clients stakeholders and regulatory authorities
- Stay current with emerging technologies and best practices in tunneling and underground construction engineering
Qualifications :
**Required Qualifications:**
- Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering Geotechnical Engineering or related engineering discipline
- Minimum 5 years of professional experience in tunneling underground construction or related civil engineering projects
- Proficiency with industry-standard engineering software (e.g. AutoCAD STAAD Pro PLAXIS or equivalent)
- Strong knowledge of geotechnical principles structural analysis and underground construction methodologies
- Excellent technical writing and documentation skills
- Valid Professional Engineer (PE) license or eligibility to obtain licensure
**Preferred Qualifications:**
- Masters degree in Civil Engineering Geotechnical Engineering or Tunneling Engineering
- 8 years of experience specifically in tunnel design and underground structure projects
- Experience with Building Information Modeling (BIM) and advanced design software
- Familiarity with relevant building codes regulations and industry standards (ASCE OSHA local jurisdictional requirements)
- Project management certification (PMP) or equivalent
- Experience leading multidisciplinary teams and managing stakeholder communications
- Knowledge of emerging technologies and innovations in underground construction
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities with demonstrated risk assessment experience
